I will be taking a day trip to Perth soon. So I am arriving on QF400/QF581 (MEL-SYD-PER) at around 11:50AM, and then leaving on QF776 (PER-MEL) at around 5:05PM.
On QF776 the aircraft is scheduled to be an A330-200. I have selected seat 44K, which is a exit row. Will I have to leave the departure lounge in Perth, to be able to check in for the exit row, or can that do that in MEL or SYD, where I am stopping off?
Also, does anyone have any photos of seat 44K, does it have a window, and as it as a new A332 will it have an USB slot, even though there is no seat infront?
I'm not sure what level of freq flyer you are eg PS/SG/WP so not sure whether or not you have a Qcard with the chip in it to scan at the podium but assuming you haven't your options are:
Outbound trip MEL/SYD/PER
As you're not travelling with luggage you may as well do your checkin prior to arriving at the airport so when you arrive you can just go straight through security up to the boarding gate.
You can do
OLCI & print out the boarding passes at home. If no printer at home you can still checkin at home then just reprint your boarding pass from a kiosk at the airport. If you are in an exit row & you OLCI you will still be checked in however you won't be able to print out your boarding passes so just see the gate agent prior to boarding & tell them you checked in online but couldn't print your boarding pass as you're in an exit row & they will print the boarding pass for you.
Note you can't
reprint an exit row boardng pass from a kiosk if you have done OLCI first - see the gate agent for a reprint if travelling without bags.
Alternatively if you have a smart phone you can do
mobile checkin which I'm now told will ask you the questions about being able bodied etc etc & thereby send the 2D barcode to your phone which you then scan at the boarding gate. Remember to take the docket that prints out at the boarding gate after you scan your phone as you need to show this to the CSM as you go onboard the aircraft.
I haven't used mobile checkin myself when it invovles connecting flights so don't know whether you are sent 2 x 2D barcodes to your phone, one for each flight - maybe someone else here has done this & can comment.
OK just to sum up.
Fort the MEL-SYD-PER leg, that it all on one ticket. The PER-MEL sector is on a seperate booking. The PER-MEL sector is the one I have selected an exit row seat.
Should I wait until I get to Perth to check in? and is there a service desk in the departure lounge or check in area, where I can get my exit row boarding pass, or can the kiosks print it. If the kiosks can, can I do this in Melbourne, or do I have to exit the Perth departure lounge and do it there?
Inbound trip PER/MEL
It sounds as though you are remaining airside at the PER Domestic terminal so rather than have to exit security & go through again you could either do a) mobile checkin as it will now ask you the exit row questions before sending the 2D bar code to your phone or b) use a kiosk at PER Airport if they have them outside the QP like they do in BNE or c) go up to a QF staff member at the service desk near the departure gates or d) use the kiosk at MEL by scanning your frequent flyer card or entering your booking reference . I know you can't checkin
with bags more than 6 hours prior to departure of PER/MEL flight but it may do as you're not travelling with bags.
Let us know how you go & what you did.
