Interesting statement on the Perth airport website "The $100 million expansion of the international departures area has commenced and will give the airport the capacity to take the Airbus A380 and Virgin Australia’s A330 in 2014." I wonder why they would need to accommodate VA's 330 in the international terminal?

Maybe I should have just read on! "The construction of a new $190 million Domestic Pier at the western end of the current International Terminal (T1), has also commenced and will see Virgin Australia move its domestic services to the international precinct in late 2014."

I wouldn't be surprised if they do to international ex PER, especially being in the same terminal.

My one and only VA flight last year was going to be from Perth, except they couldn't manoeuvre two A330's into the gates at the same time, so my SYD bound flight was cancelled.. This will be a welcome change.

Don't know what's so special (and needing of new construction) to accommodate a VA A330 at the Int terminal (oooooh we're getting into the big leagues with A330s!?!?!), when we pulled up last night there was an SAA A340 right next to a CX A330 and they also have SQ 777s etc a couple of times a day don't they...

Now they may not fly a VA A330 domestically out of the Int terminal so it needing some new pier, so maybe that will be part of the new construction perhaps, but that should be seperate to whenever they finallllyyyyyyy get the friggin A380 gate in the Int terminal... I saw some constuction last night, but couldn't really make head or tail of it...

It's related to pavement strength on the apron that will become VAs new home.
