I have flown this route a few times and as far as I know there is still a personal entertainment system in economy. There are 6 movie channels available (movies change monthly, different selections for flights into/out of Australia) + another 7 channels (including comedy, news, flight path etc), total of 13 channels!!!. I think in business/first it is around 18 channels.

I have never been in a Qantas 744 that doesn't have personal screens...

Try flying to the Phillipines. They have got to be the oldest 747's in the fleet. One flight I though I had done well to get a H bulkhead seat towards the front of Y (Y=econ? still learning), just to find that the tiny LCD screen on the wall only had 2 colours, so was moved to the back of the plane to kneel on my seat to watch the big screen.

Only new here, but what is the diference between a 747, 738 and 744? Are they a 737-800 and 747-400?

Then you must not have flown on the 744's for the first half of their life. The IFE upgrade was started about 5 years back and rolled out slowly across the fleet of 744's. All QF 744's have had personal IFE in the economy cabin for at least 3 or 4 years now.

And since all the operating 743's also have it installed now, even if the aircraft is substituted you will still get it. But that chance of that happening is low since two of the 743's are about to go operating charters for Hajj (EBX and EBV), EBY is going in for maintenance, leaving EBT and EBW for QF flying. Anyway, that is another story.

Thanks, I suspected as much. I guess Qantas just hasn't updated that section of their website for a while!

I've just booked with my points on the QF flight out and managed to score CX back in (via HKG) which will be a nice change to the Qantas economy!

737, 747 etc is the name of the aircraft type while 738 (737-800), 734 (737-400), 743 (747-300) etc refers to the specific varient (ie: 800, 400, 300 series). Some have ER or LR added to the end which again denotes a specific varient of the ac type

I flew SIN - SYD in economy on 3 Sept and there were personal screens. There wasn't a single movie that I wanted to watch and hadn't already seen, but that's another story. And the TV channels were the same as had been on the outbound leg, so I had already seen that too. Luckily it was a night flight.
