Premier Colin Barnett today acknowledged that he would be scrutinised for the decision to allow 500 new gaming machines and 130 additional gaming tables at the Crown Metropol, formerly the Burswood Casino, which will be subject to the approval of the Gaming an Wagering Commission of Western Australia. The new $568 million, six-star hotel is to be called Crown Towers.
It will be built on 5.6 hectares of land, to be purchased by Crown from the state government for $60 million.

I thought there was no actual rating beyond 5 star? I know several hotels like to rate themselves, and there is supposedly at least one seven star (self rated) in Dubai, but this is just marketing hype so far as I can tell.

Industry accepted hotel ratings finish at 5 star right?

Will be interesting to see. For me, 5 star is about the service and I think they will have a hard time getting the staffing right. We do need more hotel rooms though, so anything is welcome.

While 6 star* is just marketing, Perth does need more hotel rooms, and as none of the exisiting hotels are really luxury hotels, it is a good addition.

(* Although in Europe the HotelStar system provides two levels at 5 star. There is ***** (Luxury) and *****S (Superior Luxury) )

Yes, I agree with you. In my mind, the 4 versus 5 star differential is service. In Australia we struggle to provide this level of service and it appears to require a gargantuan effort from senior hotel management to make it happen. Anything is possible though and we do have the right people, they are just hard to find (or head-hunt!).
