[PER-East Coast Business] catering particularly good at the moment

The movement back to prawn entrees is not so good for those of us with shellfish allergies. If the prawns were stored separately from the salad the crew could make them up resulting in prawn free for those who need it, and extra prawns for those who want them.

Well, no chance to report on the consistency of J meals on my return Perth to BNE leg yesterday. The upgrade gods didn't smile, although they smiled on my P1 mate (who has had 2 in a row while I've had none), and I did a mercifully short stint in Y.
Alas, the food was dire. Beef in red wine was horrible and after a taste I left it and enjoyed my toblerone.

No P1 recognition, dire food, 767 second rte IFE. Not an experience to complement or recommend.

Hi Nanks

I would surely think you would have dinner but if the fare states refreshment... It sound like that's all you will get. I just looked at some of my upcoming flights but they all had either lunch, breakfast or refreshment.. I have no evening flights booked at the moment.

What should one expect to be served in J for a resfreshment service?

It's a one course meal, usually choice of soup or a salad with an accompanying side salad and drink. Tea and coffee afterwards .
This is an example:

Sorry its sideways

I must say, it's not just when flying across the country.

I've had some great catering on domestic flights between SYD-BNE in J recently. The fish dish that I had flying from BNE-SYD on Wednesday evening was absolutely superb - it was fish and it had a crusty top almost like a half pie along with vegetables.

The meze plate I had also coming back from BNE a few weeks back was also quite tasty.

As promised I took the same BNE PER flight in J yesterday to see whether it was going to be 2 in a row. It certainly was. The excellent young CSM recommended the snapper so I went with that.

Entree was a very decent king prawn salad (a welcome break from the soups). The snapper was served with rice and a red curry sauce. It was a decent sized cut and cooked perfectly. Once again I thoroughly enjoyed a restaurant quality meal in the air. I washed the food down with an excellent Xanadu chardonnay and a Tower cab sauv.In chatting with the CSM he mentioned that there had been changes in catering arrangements in BNE and that it was showing in the right sort of way.

Although we were delayed out of BNE, the crew went out of their way to make the flight comfortable and showed QF at its best. I'm quick to criticise when things aren't right, so think it fair to complement when they go well.
Only downside is I'm Y on the way back so won't be able to check for 3 in a row.....

Was going to add my 2 cents, but I'll just steal yours!

While the King Prawns were just alright, I thought the snapper was delicious! I was tempted to ask for seconds, but didn't want to be that guy :) And even though the King Prawns were just alright, it feels good to eat King Prawns on a plane, so I'm not complaining

I recently did a BNE-PER
And I had the same meal on the flight and yes, the prawns were average but the snapper was great.

However I must say, DJ's C2C offering (possibly even the 737s) is still miles ahead of both the 2 transcontinental flights I've done recently on QF.
Sorry if I sound like an ad for DJ haha.

Time to rewaken this thread as the catering in J on yesterday afternoon's Perth -BNE was dire.
Entree back to a single choice of soup.
Only 2 main choices a lasagne and a pork omlette
The person next to me and I opted for the omlette and neither of us could eat it. A glance around the cabin saw a lot of half touched meals.

The crew were fantastic and couldn't have been more apologetic (not their fault though) - promising to provide feedback to catering re our views.

This was after a flight the opposite direction last week where there were no hot towels and no newspapers (I know, first world problem, but I hadn't grabbed a paper in the lounge as I expected the standard service on the plane).
