I've being doing the cross continent route in J frequently in the last month and have noticed that the food is much improved. It was never usually bad, but has gone from 'quite good' to 'I'm looking forward to it.'

The beef cheeks last week were awesome.

I'm less of a fan of the soup entree though.

I think there are many that aren't impressed with the mushroom soup . . . loved the asparagus soup from a while back though :)

I did have a nice Chicken and Quinoa salad in J the other week. A few weeks earlier, a friend laughed at me getting a cheese plate on DJ in J on a flight from MEL to SYD. Recently, on a QF flight in J of similar duration (not MEL-SYD) I got this:

qf_cheese.jpg

So, it's not all sweetness and light (and the J catering on VA trans-con is sensational on the new A330; not flown QF J transcon in a long time so unable to compare, but have posted pics in the relevant VA thread...)

Have to say, had the Penne with Spinach, Pumkin, Ricotta & Red Peppers last week MEL-SYD in Y. Don't recall such a bland, mushy concoction on any airline; totally tasteless. Together with the unintelligible soundtrack on the news - the CSD obviously had complaints, apologized and switched programmes - the 45min delay, made for a very ordinary commute up to Sydney.

So pleased to hear everything's good in the posh-seats :D

Regards,

BD

I guess Qantas have decided to try and combat the exceptional Business service/product VA have been providing on their 330's. ;)

(Why so long? Contracts need renegotiation perhaps?)

Re: domestic [business] catering particularly good at the moment

The thread title needs updating - Domestic Business Catering. I got exciting as I have a Qantas flight next week after a month or so break. Instead it seems I'll still be turning away the boring breakfast and the "snack" on the 20:45 flight. :(

Re: domestic [business] catering particularly good at the moment

Maybe the improvements apply to SYD-PER but for those of us who travel shorter services eg SYD-MEL or BNE , things are not that great . Quantity is inadequate - meals I have had on these services on the last 3 months have been tasty enough but there is not enough to fill me up .

Re: domestic [business] catering particularly good at the moment

I've had 3 trans-continental flights in whY in the last couple of months on the QF international A333 & there was a choice of two hot meals to choose from. The PER/SYD flight last month had the choice of a lamb curry or penne pasta with pumpkin, spinach & goats cheese. I had the latter & it was one of the nicest airline pasta meals I've ever had.

Wow - we have references from two members regarding the same meal, one hates it one loves it.

Taste in food is particularly different from one person to another

Or the same meal was poorly prepared on one flight and well prepared on the other.

Had that pasta recently - was edible but not a fan.
I normally get early morning flights in econ, the shredded cardboard flakes they call muesli dont impress me.
Thought it might change occasionally but no luck now for 3 months.
Miss the old days of scrambled eggs and sausages etc for breaky in econ.

I did have a nice Chicken and Quinoa salad in J the other week.

I really enjoyed the salad as well. It looked and tasted good.

On my breakfast flight, I had the fruit and plain yoghurt. Yoghurt was good - creamy and not tart at all. Does anyone know what brand it is?

I did the return on Friday afternoon in WhY and had a perfectly pleasant red chicken curry and a quaffable red wine (capel vale). So don't despair it's looking up if you turn right as well!

J again on Monday so I can check out consistency.

Don't even start me on the salads... The roast beef salad with horseradish cream I had in J this week was fantastic!

.

I just about only fly early morning or late night. The breakfast is rubbish and they don't serve meals late at night. No curry for me. :(

the Thai red curry is actually really good -(actually look forward to it- and i know the FAs like it too,) and it is better than most of the Thai restaurants here in Perth

i even emailed my compliments to Qantas - and got a personalised thank you letter back within a week (I think they were in shock if anything...)

Keep it up QF!

Re: domestic [business] catering particularly good at the moment

Interesting comments about the penna pasta with ricotta, spinach, pumpkin and red peppers. Like BD1959, I had that meal on a MEL to SYD flight (but earlier in the month), however, unlike BD1959's experience, my pasta was actually fairly tasty and definitely not mushy. I guess consistency maybe lacking in QF catering in this respect.

I also had the red chicken curry last month from ADL to SYD and it was surprising good for a Y meal.
