Hi all, long time since last post. (Uni Degrees and no real travel saw to that)

Been back in the W/f for a year now (missing the uni days already) with some travel, enough to get to QP PS.

Have a holidy booked on QF to Denver for 2 weeks worth of skiing with mates, one of which is doing the endless winter thing. Can't bring myself to fly with them (PER NRT DFW DEN EGE DFW LAX SYD PER) just to save $200 Deep discount combo AA, QF and NWA)

Booked in O, Q (not in the budget to do J, maybe next lifetime) and route is as follows.

PER-MEL(QF648)-LAX(QF25)-DEN(QF3289 on AA)-15 days on/ off piste-LAX(QF3286 on AA)-SYD(QF108)-PER(QF577).

Questions to those that know.
1. QF25 is via AKL, and if so how long is the stopover and what is the QP like in AKL (pretty sure it doesn't count as a sector for SC earn, but correct me if I'm wrong)
2. The lounge in LAX T4 V's TBI- 6hr stop so time in transit won't allow me to get out.
3. Bringing two bags (skis in one, Clothes in Backpack, there for 2 weeks skiing so not quite in carry on only territory:rolleyes:) so any probs on the AA operated flights?

Thanks to the gurus who will point me in the right direction

  1. Stopover in AKL is for ~100 minutes you can use the J lounge, segment counts as MEL-LAX.
  2. It is unlikely you will be using TBIT, QF108 departs T4. Two issues:
    • On arrival into LAX you clear customs, collect your bags and redrop them and you find yourself landside. So you will have to "Go Out".

You then have to re-enter T4, going through normal Security.
    • Coming back, as long as you have your BP, it should be possible to go land side at T4, then re-enter T4 for your flight.
  3. Given you only have one segment each way you should be OK with your Ski's

Enjoy the trip mykal, though I would be going with the endless Winter. :D

On AA you are allowed two bags up to 23kgs as checked luggage in comparison with your three bags at 32kgs on QF so there is a marginal difference. It's at the CSA's discretion whether they charge you but it's USD$50 for an extra bag and USD$25 for each bag that weighs between 23kgs and 32kgs on AA. Being on an QF flight number, you might be able to argue with the CSA for extra baggage but they will have the final say. On the way out you will have no problems as AA won't even see your bags, on the way back it's AA who check you in so this is where you may have trouble.

Enjoy the trip! :p
