People coming past the curtain to use the dunny, especially row-4 platinums.

There is that age old quote... 'failure to plan on your behalf does not constitute an emergency on mine...'

While generally i don't like saying, it really does apply for economy use of the business WC (or business use of the F WC).

A meal/refreshment service is not out of the blue. you know that 10-15 mins after take-off service carts will be in the aisles. There will also be queues at the aft WCs at 'popular' times (after meals and before landing).

PLAN in advance to use the WC and don't cross classes to use it if you get caught out.

Aircraft, cruise ships and trains are all segregated. Get over it!! If you have an image problem flying in a lower class then stump up the cash to fly higher. Don't expect additional benefits if you can't afford them :)

The more people that use lavatories the more dirty they become. Foul your own nest, not mine.

When I am waiting to change out of my jammies on a long haul i don't expect to have been waiting to find a 2nd class passenger (complete with their grey jammies) coming out of my WC.

(*exceptions to the rule... if you are elderly or disabled, then use the WC which is closest or most easily accessible.)

Gotta like those QF Fawn PJs with the embroidered Roo. ;) Much better than the grey J PJs.

While SC's may be a reasonable guide, every PAX on every Qantas flight is assigned a PCV rating.

It's a per flight rating given to each PAX. This takes into account various facets in relation to the passenger. Such facets may include but are not necessarily limited to:
  • booking class
  • FF status
  • PNR associations
  • SSRs

SSRs?

Does number of forward bookings in the system make a difference?

cheers

If you want people to predominantly use the rear lavs you'll need to make the economy seats rearwards facing. It's a natural habit to move in the direction of your line of sight and very few people walk round looking over their shoulder. It's also a natural habit to tune out PAs made onboard as invariably ones iPhone\book or daydream is more exciting. Either that or fly on a wide body where the business loo's are not visible from the economy cabin.

I hope that Business class sitters dont mind economy passengers, and especially those WP's sitting in row 4, using their emergency row exits should this ever eventuate...

I have just read through 13 pages of posts, mainly to see what sidetracks this thread took. I enjoyed those sidetracks very much, a hell of a lot more than the bickering about what is and is not written in terms etc.

To me it is plain common sense.

1.- The presence of the curtain effectively creates a J cabin, and those who have forked out for the J seats should expect that it is for them exclusively.
2.- Y pax shouldn't push aside the curtain and enter the J "cabin" as a general rule.
3.- If however the curtain has not been deployed, you are invariably going to get people who can simply see a toilet ahead of them and there is no obvious reason for them not to use it. So forgive them their trespasses.
4.- The call of nature is a bit different to many other human needs and desires. It can be sudden and desperate, so if the aft dunnies are occupied then fair enough.
5.- Personally as a WP I feel absolutely no entitlement to use the J toilets if I am flying Y, and so I don't.

Cheers.

serfty, could you explain a bit more about the whole "PCV" concept, or perhaps point me to where I can look it up? Cheers!

Wow, you must live a very structured existence. So, you are able to time exactly when the carts will appear, at what part of the plane they will appear at, and when they will disappear, meshed in with your own daily habits. Impressive.

this is the Australian frequent flyer board!! :)

there is nothing impressive. you know that all domestic qantas flights serve some sort of refreshement. you know where the galley is and the carts will come from the galley.

the shorter the flight, the quicker the carts will appear! and they get rolled to the front of the cabin and move back.

there is nothing impressive about that :)

Short flights the carts come from the back of the bus so shortly after the seat belt lights are off access to the rear loos is blocked for much of the flight...

there are many people in this thread who need to go number 1's and 2's before they board ...

oh the drama!

I didnt think the use of the forward toilet was for the exclusive use of the J cabin ... last time i flew the line was "for the benefit of those in business class"

Maybe they would be better of not mentioning the forward toilet

I personally feel that when you pay the extra dollars to travel business or even premium economy, you should be separated from the rest of the travelers. This means all the services & toiletry should be separate. Traveling business class means that you are expected to attend a meeting the next day or you need the rest from long day at work & thus do not expect any disturbance from economy passengers.
I generally fly economy but occasionally have the business pleasure which I reckon is great especially when you do not have people walk through the aisle or disturbing you when the stand at the toilet & chit chat.

Money earns you the extra comfort & hence the airline should acknowledge the same.

Hi All Flyers,
I say "get real", what does it matter if the occasional person does come through the curtain, let's not introduce the Berlin Wall or Gaza Strip here, :pthe toilet seat hasn't got my name on it or anybody else for that matter, so let's share, and not be so picky. There are better things in life and more important things in life than to be concerned about who uses a toilet. That's what it is in the end, just a toilet!

Cheers have a happy day

hmmm... so the odd economy passenger using the first class check-in would be ok. or using the priority boarding lanes. and the qantas club doesn't have first, business or economy written on it... so they might as well use that too. (sure the toilet might not have the name business class written on it... but the cabin where the toilet is located does have business class written or implied all over it)

it does matter if 3rd class passengers come through the curtain. it impinges on space and privacy of those sitting forward of the curtain. it is also a security issue, having uncontrolled access to the cabin means I can't just go to the wc and leave my laptop out, I have to secure it (sad but I have had people help themselves to something once in economy when I went to the loo).

that's not to discount the risk that a fellow premium passenger might take something... but the risk is a hell of a lot less...

when people commute home in their cars, or take the train, there is no toilet. they manage to go before they get on, or wait till they get home. the same applies for a short domestic flight... if you miss going because there is a cart in the aisle (a cart you know is coming!) then just hold... like you would driving home.

once again... failure to plan on your behalf doesn't consitute an emergency on behalf of business class passengers :) (or for that matter, mr business class passenger who decided to sleep late on arrival into Mel recently and had to use the 1st class lavatory to change... bug off!! :))
