How does one find out when peak travel periods are for Qantas? Also how does one find out when certain routes are available to be booked with FF points? When trying to see when certain routes are available to book, the Qantas Awards search always seems to just keep pushing the dates out. (example trying to book to Montreal.....each day try booking 355 days out and the search comes back saying say 29/092012 to 29/08/2012 are not available for FF award books, but each day I try the same booking, but a day further and the search just adds another day that has been blacked out i.e. 04/10/2012 to 04/09/2012........they just keep pushing out the blackout date, but give no indication when this blackout period ceases. Having FF points to buy award flights can be a pain in the neck....................

Welcome to the forum
say 29/092012 to 29/08/2012 are not available
Are you looking at 2013 or 2012 ?
Today 04/10/2012 + 355= 24/09/13 (but you may need to consider local time: USA is a calendar day behind Aust)

Does AA (QF partner) fly to Montreal?
Have you tried multi city booking?
Some awards can only be booked by phone

Edit:
Looked in OneWorld Timetable (pdf) dated 24/08/12
A OneWorld airline from Montreal is RJ to direct to Amman in Jordon.
May take lot of QF points going the long way.

Others flight by with AA are
LAX
ORD chicago
DFW Dallas
MIA
JFK
LGA
SEA

AA flights are limited to 330 days out IIRC (due to the AA computer system)

Suggest you do some research on what OneWorld airlines fly into which Canadian airports
Train up from New York is an option

Edit 2:
I note you other post here

AA Flights USA to Canada may not be available first class:- may be sold as business as its international a flight

How does one know if an award booking can only be booked by phone. We are looking at October 2013, I have just been checking each day to see if Montreal has started to be available, it was for August 2013
Chris

04/10/12 + 330 days for AA flights = 30/08/13
Look the AA site and try to book flights with $$: that will show when they become available

As suggested in your other thread get awards now to/from USA and book USA-Montreal separately
If you wait to 330 days you are 25 days behind those wanting award to the USA
Is Oct 2013 in school holidays ?

Qantas awards become available 353 days out at midnight UTC (GMT)

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

How does one find out when peak travel periods are for Qantas?
Here is a rough idea of peak travel periods

  • Christmas/New Year starting ~2 weeks before and ending ~10 days after
  • Easter period starting ~5 days before and ending ~5 days after
  • Also the 3 mid-year school holiday periods covering ~1 month for each period due to different states going at different times. If school holidays clash with Easter then it is one less peak period
