PE seat for O class fare

Hi all,

I am flying to LAX in October on an O fare, and having hoped to get lucky with a PE seat. I've been checking the seat map often, and I could only move around the whY cabin, until this afternoon.

Could you please advise me:

1. If you have been able to get a PE seat in the A380 on a whY fare? (I had even called QF and the lady on the phone claimed she couldn't select any PE seats upstairs); and

2. How secure it is for one to keep the PE seat on an O fare? My return flight LAX-MEL is in November (a 744 service), and there are now several seats from rows 36-39 (which I think are usually for PE passengers) for me to choose from, as of today.

Having looked in E/F a few times now, I don't think I've ever seen cabins being "redefined" (to have Y+ being sold as Y) on the A380.

If you have some status and Y is overbooked there's a good chance of being ODU'd to Y+ but otherwise, look forward to Y

Totally agreed. I am surprised, however, that I can select a Y+ seat, right now, noting that I am not flying until November.

What row number is this? and what seating configuration (row structure and what row numbers represent the cabin area you can select from).

You have as good a chance as any SG to retian this seat on the 744. FWIW, these days you have far better chance (when compared to recent years) of being operationally upgrades in seat and service.

As notzac posted, Qantas have to date only redefined their 744 cabins, not the 388's.

I've been able to do the same thing (select what appears to be a PE seat) also on a relatively inexpensive fare. My flight is the week before Christmas from LAX-MEL.

It's QF94 on 03 November. I think it's a 4-class 744 service. Right now there are 6 seats in rows 36 to 39 (config 2-4-2) for me to choose from.
I really hope I can retain this PE seat for the comfort factor.

Before today, I could only select seats from row 51 to the end of the aircraft (config 3-4-3).

FWIW, 3 friends have travelled SYD-LAX in the last week, and all three have been upgraded from Economy->Premium Economy several weeks out. Not sure if it's due to an equipment change or what, but as soon as they were booked and seats were allocated, the seats were PE seats.

One guy's returned already, and he got PE on the way home too (award ticket from memory).

One is SG, one is WP and one is NB (though I think the booking was linked with WP).

Having looked in E/F a few times now, I don't think I've ever seen cabins being "redefined" (to have Y+ being sold as Y) on the A380.

I will try and grab a bulkhead seat @ check-in (for power, so as to work on the laptop).

Interestingly, the QF lady sounded quite surprised that I could select a Y+ seat on the 744.

Basically, access to a GDS; one of the advantages is being able to see seat maps (along with what seats are taken or blocked) for many flights.

Voyages, I have a BNE-SFO QF73 (via Sydney) booked for 14 November and my 744 configuration recently changed allowing me to select a whY+ seat in the whY cabin – 3rd row back with my SG status. A check of E/F reveals that all PE PAX on this flight will be in skybeds – so fingers crossed for an OPUP. On my return flight, no such configuration change – although I am hanging out for one. Despite still getting whY service, a little bit of extra room, plus only having to share my space with my partner because of the 2-4-2 configuration makes for an enjoyable trip.

So to answer your question – no, I don’t think that it is unusual that things have changed this far out. It’s less than 90 days until you fly and QF want certainty about revenue – even if yields might be down by doing it. On both of my flights, Business and PE cabins are very light.

Business – 12 seats allocated from 38 (some in first class seats)
PE – 1 seat allocated from 42 (note these are now skybeds)

SFO-SYD

Business – 9 seats allocated from 66 (some in first class seats)
PE – 3 seats allocated from 32 (standard PE seats)

I think the issue here is that until recently, Qantas had redefined their 744 cabins only uo up until October 26th.

Looking at seat maps, they now appear to have extended this redefinition until 31st January 2010.

In that case can you check QF9 on Nov 5 for me? I'm currently in 40G and CMT still shows that as being the first row I can choose from.

This redefinition was for USA flights.*

As C/M/T shows the first row of WHY as 40 then there has yet been no redefinition of your flight.

I agree with you. I've been op-uped twice this year so not sure if it's going to happen again. However the PE seats no doubt make a difference,as I've got Singapore immediately after the States. Had I known, I'd have chosen to fly another day on a 744 (instead of A380 Y seat).

No wonder MarcB and swissbignose can also select Y+ seats, noting both are flying later in Nov and Dec.
