Looking for fares for Christmas time roughly 22 Dec depart and 30 Dec return.

QF website is quoting (tax inclusive) HK$12,297 (about A$1,700). FlightStats showing:

Am I any chance of getting a better price than that with an imminent sale? CX is quoting HKD$14,878.

For comparison sake I know others who have booked MEL-HKG PE return on QF just after Australia Day and are getting it for about A$1,300.

Given the out-bound on 22 Dec I wouldn't be waiting for sales.

YMMV - happy wandering

If you can get to SIN,

22DEC outbound SIN-BNE-SYD and on/before 28 DEC, or on/after 02 JAN inbound SYD-BNE-SIN, you're looking at S$1571 return, approximately A$1381.84. SYD-MEL-SYD can be done with JQ price match with TR, and HKG-SIN-HKG can be done with 3K price match with TZ. Total will be about A$1660.74* with 8 sectors altogether. HKG-SIN-BNE-SYD-MEL//MEL-SYD-BNE-SIN-HKG

* Rough estimation with SGD-AUD forex rate of 1:1.17749 and 3% bank conversion tax, JQ SYD-MEL-SYD A$49.45 each way and 3K HKG-SIN-HKG A$90 each way (speculative TZ HKG-SIN-HKG fare to be A$100 one way)

just my guess but I think planes will be pretty full at that time with people returning home, I wouldn't necessarily hold out for a sale. $1700 is fairly good value... it used to be around the $1900 to compete with VS.
