Hi folks,

Looking for recommendations for a good spot for a couple of nights stay in the middle of next year. Last time I was in London was in the Intercon Park Lane, but not sure my points balance will allow for that by then.

Something walking distance to the theatre district and (obviously) close to a decently connected tube station would be preferred!

Nothing fancy required, a HIX would be fine if it's in good shape - I'll be by myself, so really all I need is a clean room, comfy bed, and a decent shower.

Yeah, I'll give FT a go - I'm having trouble figuring it out myself, there's rather a lot of options!

I have stayed at a few PC hotels when in London and frequently attend theatres. I have stayed at the Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza St James, HI Mayfair, HI Bloomsbury and HI Camden Lock.

I would be happy to stay at any of these again, but the HI Camden Lock is the one I use most. Not walking distance to the West End, but it is on the Northern Line and a quick trip into Leicester Square. I like the different feel to the area and the rooms are roomy and bright, although some spots can be noisy.

From CP St James it is an easy walk to the theatres in the Haymarket area. St James is on the Circle and District Lines which takes you to Embankment for other theatres and Covent Garden. Nice, quiet area.

HI Mayfair is also quiet, with easy access to Piccadilly and is two stations from Leicester Square on the Piccadilly Line. OK also for walking to the West End.

HI Bloomsbury is close to Russell Square station on the Picadilly Line. I have walked to the West End from there but have also used the Tube.

The HI Oxford Circus may be closer than these but I have not stayed there.

Happy to give more specific information on any of these.

Thanks dcm! I think the HI Mayfair is at the top of my list at the moment (although someone on FT makes a good argument for the CP City too). Do you happen to remember if there are cheap speedy breakfast options within a very short walk of it (like a block or so)? One of the omnipresent Prets would be fine!

I am pretty sure there is a Pret as well as other options including Caffe Nero nearby. Nigelinoz's link confirms the former.

The HI Oxford Circus may be closer than these but I have not stayed there.

I have stayed at the HI Oxford Circus a couple of times and it is very handy for the West End, i.e easy walking distance.

The hotel is OK, rooms are a little small, but then it is the centre of London.

Parking was non existent if you are driving there.
