Hi , I recently managed to obtain four QF award seats from Frankfurt to Melbourne with Qatar Airways however when I went to finalise the booking and pay the taxes/charges I received credit card error: 4620 “We are having difficulty with the credit card details provided. Please validate the credit card information in your profile and try again.”

Despite trying multiple credit cards and clearing my PC cache the error persisted. I then continued to refresh the booking in order to not lose the award seats and phoned Qantas and was confronted with a 4 hour wait time ( is this for real ??!! ).

Needless to say I could not spend hours refreshing the booking and hold on the phone, consequently I gave up and the award seats were gone. I called the QF call back service and 4 hours later when they called me, much to my relief the award seats were being held for me and I made a manual over the phone payment.

I was not able to ascertain from the phone call what the credit card problem was. I have a theory that I had Amex card details save in my profile and tried to pay first with Visa but even when I tried to pay with Amex it still failed.

Is it normal for failed payment seats to be held ? How can I avoid this situation in the future ?

regards all,

Sadly we are hearing about these QF payment errors very often these days. It appears a 'booking' is made (hence your seats were held), as some have reported multiple bookings created when they tried to do the payment again, and it failed again .. and again ...

You found 4 premium QR award seats, on one flight, from Europe to Australia? .... I strongly recommend you buy a lottery ticket because this is the pinnacle of Frequent Flyer achievement!

Yup, with Qantas, this is what they seem to deem as acceptable. They are always experiencing exceptional call volume it seems, which means it isn't really exceptional!

Wow, Qantas really went downhill nowadays, I remember booking my RTW flight using points before and the wait time on calls was "only" an hour or two (I have no status with Qantas), so now the average wait time is 4 hours?

Thanks goodness for this thread I thought it was just me. last week I tried to book regular paid tickets and had that issue so just went over to another airline and locked in flights with them. Was a very last minute trip and didn't have time to mess around.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
