Pay extra or sit near the toilet

No it's not!

Numerous airlines - including in Europe - charge for pre-assigned seating...

BA for one....

I love how it says they're "allowing" customers, as if it's something completely different from what it actually is!

I'm probably going to be flamed for nonews bashing, but toilet (or what gets deposited into them) and nonews go hand in hand....

What is different to now? . Many pax are "forced" to sit near the toilets currently, a low status nobody on a full plane probably isn't going to have much scope to move at the moment - so they could be "forced" to sit near the toilets already. And on many planes, firstly some people pay extra to sit near toilets (ie exit rows) and secondly those with babies are "forced" to sit near the toilets (ie bulkheads with bassinet positions).

Nice bit of spin to suggest people should pay to allocate a seat, or face the consequences.

dajop, don't get worried about nonews bashing. They normally deserve it...

As for the article itself - meh, I do perfer the pointy end of the plane, but if I'm in Y I don't really care if it's the first row of Y or the second last.

I've so far been lucky to avoid the middle seat. Infact I can't think of a single flight where I haven't had either a window (my fav) or an aisle.

Also yeah, I thought it was another Ryanair ad...

What I am a little shocked over is

while those travelling in business class and on long-haul flights in economy will have to pay $36.while those travelling in business class and on long-haul flights in economy will have to pay $36.

AFAIK, this is the first mention of hitting up premium passengers for this tax.

Nope, BA are the same; in fact, oddly it costs more. Though first class don't pay and there are some exemptions for status.

What a totally confusing article.

Is this a recent change as I was able to pre-allocate seats for BA flights back in March/April? I may have missed recent announcements.

Certainly sounds like another of those "hidden" charges the airlines love so much. Very soon I can see them running of codes to use for "hidden" charges....

Yes, they announced it a few months' back.
