Pathetic [Where are the advertised extra award seats? ]

You do realise that it’s QF that gets to decide what your QFF points are worth, not you?
No they dont. I am the sole decision maker.

I'll continue to pay $600-$800 for revenue airfare to BKK and pool the points to the one account.

I then book SYD-BNE for 8,000 points + ~$42 where Qantas stupidly wanted $194.

And I'll earn my points paying $91 for a JQ flight.

Qantas aren't the only ones able to take advantage of the situation.

FYI - some positive news (well I think). I just had to change a classic award that was booked last week. Turns out the points cost is based on date of PNR, so I was able to change my booking, but at the previous (pre-18 Sep) points costs. I am also getting a refund on some of the taxes, presumably because the carrier charges have come down.

No sure why @Duffa expected all of the promised new seats to be released immediately.

Well that is good news but not so good for me. I was going to run the gauntlet and book flights under the old rates (details post 19) and then change it when when the actual date are released which will be next Monday 23/9 for the out bound and about 4 weeks later for the return. I didn't go down that path as I thought I may be stung for the additional points, in addition to the change fees.

So whilst this is a good outcome I am now kicking myself I did not book last week. :(

I think there was a misapprehension that the seats would be all made available and all of them yesrerday (18 Sep 19). No. They started a release when they announced the change afew months back and it's not all at once.

Indeed the day of that announcement many found extra premium seats had opened up - all you need do is search AFF.

So I hardly think it's "pathetic" - it may be misleading by QF in terms of the mix of award seats released (of course they won't all be J and F on routes you want) but that doesn't mean they haven't released any, or that it's not on a schedule.

Isn't the reduction in carrier charges only on QF flights?

I'm with you though, I would far prefer spending fewer points.
It is the figure that is highlighted in yellow, it was at $250.00 last week and on Tues 17/9. I assume this is just QF clipping the ticket on the JL flight but not sure.

P1 has been fantastic for us. Since hitting P1 earlier this year I've requested and been approved for 24 x J and 8 x F most have been long haul flights, all requests were short notice. That's 2,120,000 QFFP toasted on short notice requested seats - try doing that without P1 !
I like your style and that number, I have only be able to burn on average 1.2M per year over the past 5 years as we only travel in school holidays. I am getting up there for next years travel, so far at 1.1M and will be closer to 2.1M within the next few weeks. I am on a mission to burn all my QF points before I drop from P1.

I am hoarding the SQ points and only using them if they are going to expire.

That's a lot of toasters. ;)

Everything seems to be pathetic with everything QF/VA do, everyone always has a say about something about something. If the airlines listened to the armchair experts, there would be no airlines or 'loyalty' programs.

But there is last minute availability too sometimes, look for lightly loaded flights in J, there are usually U class available.
There has also been quite a few last minute F class EK awards available on the day of departure too lately.

OT: Do you honestly like anything with any airline?

No, those making their point are far more focused on how the advertising and free media publicity given to companies like QF doesn't match reality.

IMO advertising is pretty wild across the board. It's up to the individual to decipher the BS from fact. If you went through life expecting the things you see/hear on the telly, internet, email, papers, radio ..... you will end up bitterly disappointed.

That's good news. Can you confirm that your changes were just changes to dates and flight numbers but do not include deleting flights and adding new route segments outside of Australia?

View attachment 188660

I recall a previous thread about the "Q surcharge" on JL and the conclusion was that this was actually a JL charge.

Well I did not know that so I may have to stand corrected, looking at the attachment again the booking is for 1 PAX, I am needing 2 so my previous search may have been for 2 previously and 1 yesterday which would lead me to conclude the cost was halved.

That is spectacularly unfair, Amaroo. Qantas are a reputable company and "promised" more J fares to hard-to-redeem places in return for increased points. (see post #9 in this thread). That has not happened for most of us.
I have always approached life with the motto "you get nothing for nothing" but when I was flying to London in F for the princely sum of $300, thanks to JS, I had started to believe that dreams did in fact come true. Now, I'm just a broken man, bitter and disappointed.

QF may well have or will release more J fares, however over the last 2-3 years given the number of DSC, 50% SC open or targeted offers they have also created additional P1, WP and SG who have access to reward seats earlier than PS or NB travellers. Sad but true. Although numbers are not published from the 12M+ QFF I am of the understanding there are more CLs than P1s, WPs are a dime a dozen and SG well just say there is more of them than you can poke a stick at.

If you start from the assumption/fact that Joyce and the QF PR team are world class bull coughpers then it will be easier to not be disappointed when most of their guff is shown up for the load of bollocks it usually is... :)

And I snuck in a 280k redemption on Tuesday, before the devaluation, but I wasn't sure of the exact dates/locations so I booked an itinerary close to what I think i will do, but only after i had queried the QF Twitter team and got a response back in writing that the points totals will only change to the increased amount if I add more stops to the redemption, but if I just changes routes and dates and stay within the 5 allowable stops and i guess 35k mileage limit then no, the taxes will change but I won't be charged any more points... For what that is worth, but at least I have it in writing...

QF reputable ? Know many who would disagree with that statement.

For extra ff seats, look at dates, no one wants to fly like

domestically Sat pm & Sun am

internationally

DEC 25 & 31, JAN 1 especially am flights.

Doubt if there will be any increase in ff seats at start or end of school holidays.

For some reason many thought QF were going to make ff seats available in the middle of peak season.

QF will make ff seats available, when they can't sell them for cash, which is proving to be either end of peak season. Peak season dates are reducing, so either end can't be sold at peak season pricing. It's at the edges of peak season that airlines don't want to reduce prices. They are almost better off, opening up all unsold seats to ffs.
