Anyone apply for a passport recently?

How long has it actually taken for your own scenario? They say up to 10 working days from receipt for a standard application (i.e. not paying the priority fee). Does it always take this long, or has anyone had it processed faster than 10 days (not including return mailing time)?

How many days?
New or renewal?
What state (which determines the office that processes your application)?

We have renewed two recently. Mine was done as a standard renewal on the 6th November. I received the email to say it was completed on the 26th November and that it would be sent the next day. I do not have it yet. We paid the priority fee on Mr ronnicat's on 26 November. Email 2nd December to say it was completed and ready for posting. The post office told us the ten business days did not include post time to and from your point of renewal. We are in rural WA.
Having said this, last Christmas one son renewed his and one did a new application. Both were back in just over a fortnight during Christmas/New Year. No priority fee with those two.

I did mine December last year at the post office closest to out passport office in Brisbane, the passport took two days and I was able to pocket up on the last day before they closed for Christmas and New Year, so if you need to get one dine do it ASAP as normally they take quite a break including a few non public holiday days up to and after Christmas.

Was that a priority application?

No it was normal, I met someone in the lift who also had the same timeframe as mine but paid the priority fee as they were going away on Boxing Day, the day I picked it up they were only open until 1PM, felt sorry for the couple who that morning discovered the husbands passport would not allow them to take their Boxing Day trip .

I would imagine they get droughts and deluges when it comes to applications, so my experience might not be atypical at any one time.

Mine was about 10 days and that was from doing the forms until had the docket to collect it from Australia Post.

It was just a renewal.

10 working days or actual days (including weekends)?

Mine seems to be progressing slowly if the on-line status is an accurate basis.

Think your self lucky my passport took 12 weeks from go to wohh, grin ahh ok it is an Irish passport ! Grin

Both passports arrived today. Which means 6 business days for processing and return to rural WA.

I did mine in Brisbane last year. Did the application at the post office in Spring Hill and chose to pick up from Passport Office in CBD when it was ready. Got the email to say to to pick up I think it was 6 working days later. Needless to say I quickly popped down the road and got it the same day. No express processing fee paid in this case.

A friend of mine got her renewal after close on two weeks last week. She is in country Victoria which may have added a couple of days for postage. I expect the lead up to Xmas holidays would be a busy time.

Two weeks through the post office in Alice Springs. Needed new ones cause the old ones were full so ordered at great expense the larger ones with extra pages so now we have to use them!!!
