Passenger title being enhanced off BP to save on printing costs

For the last year or perhaps three, travel within the USA has required middle names (not just an initial) within the booking.

Last year at LAX I had to change my OLCI QF BP showing my middle initial for a standard one showing my full name before I could go through security at TBIT.

From my recent experience (in May), I have used my first name and last name with no middle initials in all my US domestic bookings and there were no issues whatsoever whether it be ORD, LAS, SEA or JFK.

For USA Secureflight you book the PNR with standard SURNAME/FIRSTNAME

You then add Secureflight data to the booking or APIS data, this will require you to add the middlename like this SURNAME/FIRSTNAME/MIDDLE NAME

There is absolutely NO requirement whatsoever to have the middle name in the actual name field of the PNR. In fact it is recommended you DO NOT put it there. To issue the ticket the secureflight data is required which is name including middle name, DOB and gender, this all goes into a separate field and is not related to the name field of the PNR.

Again, there is no need and it is recommended you do not add middle name to the name field of the pnr. This can cause issues with frequent flyer mileage accrual if your FF account doesn't have your middle name in it. Also it can make the name field too long for some people who may have multiple middle names.

Have been practicing this for all my clients and my own bookings since secureflight started.

I have a boarding pass from Sunday's (2 days ago) SYD-BNE flight printed both from kiosk and lounge and both are in format of

K/JOHN MR

My BP printed in the lounge for my BNE-SYD flight on Sunday was also in the same format.

My friend's surname consists of 14 letters! She has her first name and then only part of her surname on her BP, no matter who she flies with. Forget the title - it will never fit! :p

The title is actually put in by either yourself when you make the booking, or by your booking agent. Not Qantas sorry.
So if it's not put in, you get nothing.

That was an AAward booking and I'm fairly certain it (the title) was there when going to QF MMB.
I'm on another AAward on the way home now (2x QF segments) and prior to this one, I checked with QF MMB after you mentioned it - lo and behold, it was there.
However upon QF printing my BP at LAX, it was not there. Hmmm....
