Just had 'The' horrible message pop-up on my Phone - Flight AA-72 tomorrow morning - SYD-LAX CANCELLED. Got onto the Qantas platinum Help Line quickly and shear panic setting in - as i have a 6 week trip planned to the nth degree.

Background - Very lucky to snag 2 business reward flights (via Qantas Points) a few weeks ago from SYD to YVR via LAX. for 1-Oct

Anyway - while talking to support desk i logged into Qantas APP and see that i have been rebooked onto QF75 - direct SYD to YVR on business for the 2 of us - side by side. Would have absolutely been my first choice originally if there were any reward seats available. Anyway - leave about 12 hours later than originally planned but arrive in Vancouver only 5 hours or so later than expected.

As much as i know this is a very very lucky occurrence and most people would say Qantas is the better experience - still the Av-Geek in me is slightly disappointed not to:
- Experience AA Business class on the 777 - which i have never seen before
- Experience LAX craziness - haven't been through here for 20 years - used to do it regularly back then
- Experience US customs in these interesting times
- Experience the QF First lounge & AA Flagship lounge in LAX whilst waiting for YVR connection
- Experience AA Business class on 737-800 :)

Any thoughts on what any one else would prefer in this situation?

LAX is much better than it was 20 years ago, esp TBIT. Now airside access through all terminals too after clearing immigration on arrival, and re-clearing security of course. May be some new mayhem with the people mover construction, though.

I'd be happy to avoid the USA though - not through any 'political' concerns, but because its a hassle.

To settle into the QF J suite and only have endure the disruption of Disembarkation once and Immigration once at the start of a long trip on a rare redemption ticket hits the mark for me.

Significantly inferior to QF 787 hard and soft product.

It’s not crazy, it’s just a long queue. Yawn.

- Experience US customs in these interesting times

Even more of a yawn. Media blowup.

- Experience the QF First lounge & AA Flagship lounge in LAX whilst waiting for YVR connection

QF F LAX is inferior to SYD both in decor and services (no spa). The food and beverages are good but not better than SYD. Also for non-QF departure periods the service can be extremely slow (I’ve waited over 30 minutes for food when the lounge is almost empty).

The flagship lounge is not bad, nothing amazing though.

Hard product about the same as QF 737 (newer but less legroom IMO). Service is usually pretty good, can even get spirits as a PDB. Catering isn’t great.

Overall you’ve definitely had a win.
