Hey, pikelet or pancake, who cares.............I'm partial to either and both are moon-leaps away from neither :p

Being the lazy GenY traveller that I am and not arriving before 10am (No Pancakes at OOL!) I've missed the pancakes until today, they are quite delicious if I may say so myself. I felt slightly selfish as I am the type of person who lives to drown my pancakes in maple syrup.

*Thumbs Up from Me*

The QF pancakes actually are pancakes whereas the DJ variety look more like pikelets to me.

So the question is, at what point does a pikelet become a pancake? Do we measure the Total Surface Area or the diameter to determine what we are eating? Or is there some sort of sophisticated technical measurement equation for pancakes that I'm unaware of?

Thickness, diameter and temperature I think. Pikelets can be served cold but are smaller and thicker. Pancakes should always be hot and fresh and larger but thinner. Crepes of course should be the thinnest of the lot.

That's my view anyway!

haha remind me to travel with a ruler next time to bring a conclusion to the great pancake/pikelette debate of 2011.

On a side note, great idea - had them for breakfast last week when flying from PER. Very tasty :)

Quick question that I could answer myself in about an hour but I want to know now so that I can ready myself! Are there pancakes in the ADL lounge? And is it only a breakfast type arrangement or is it all day?

Just breakfast, til 11am, and yes in ADL too. I quite like the stewed apple with mine.

Virgin,

You've won me over from QF with your constant innovation. Pancakes were great last friday at YBBN. Machine rocks.
Keep up the good work.

Ironic post considering who the first mob were to bring in the pancake machines to the lounges this year...

*Please flame me if I am wrong, but this is not an original DJ/VA innovation...

Yes it was qf who started it. I think the point was that virgin will listen to what the customer wants, and implement changes, if those changes are doable, and of course, viable. Gold star to qantas for introducing it, and a gold star for virgin for listening to their customers. Bottom line here, is that we are back to the good old 2 airline system, and the offering will be identical very shortly. The only difference to the past is the name. Check out both, and use whoever suits your needs, as pancakes in the lounge are nice, but they are causing my gut heartache and my belt to stretch, since their introduction, hmm, fruit or pancake and syrup hmmm ;)

The other key difference I found when living on "pancakes" during Uni was the batter. Pancakes and pikelets have 2 different batters, at least in my recipe book. The recipe for pancakes includes 24 hours standing in the fridge. Not good for a student wanting to eat now. Hence I made pancakes with pikelet mix.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Tell me about it! These days I couldn't care less about them..

FWIW, AirNZ had pancake machines in their Oz lounges last year ... of course, that's international.

I think it would be fair to say AirNZ is one of the most innovative airlines in the air today.
