Just checking in for my flight today paid for row 10, allocated row 46! Called Jetstar noone can help. Any ideas??

I assume this is on a 787?

Did you book 10A/B/C? A bassinet is there, so you may have been moved for that reason.

Given the call centre won't help, get to the airport early and have the argument with check-in to try and get a better seat.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes 5 seats in row 10.

Thanks I will get there early and see what happens.

So annoying used QFF points and paid for the seats, am Plat with Virgin and had I known this would happen I would have paid instead to fly VA and had row 3.

Expect nothing from them. They don't care at all.

My advice remains the same - never fly Jetstar.

Lesson learnt 

I learned the lesson 2 years ago when they dumped my partner and I at OOL for 2 days as they claimed they couldn't fly because of bad weather. Although every other plane took off!

They claimed that all flights were booked and that it would be 2 days before I could get another seat.

This occurred around 9pm. I had to find a hotel for 2 nights and get myself there. No compensation or assistance was offered at all.

Jetstar is on my banned list as a result.

They are a LCC so make sure you have low expecations. There isn't much else to say except for me they don't go anywhere I need to where there aren't other full service choices.

VA would be usual choice but had so many QFF points that I wanted to use. I'll survive row 46, one would have thought that having paid for an "up front" seat they could have got us a little close than 46!

A couple of vino's and a valium should do the trick!

This is always the risk you run when booking bassinet seats (without a baby) - there is always the chance you will be moved if a family with a baby comes along.

But yes, you should get a refund - take it up with the JQ ticketing counter at the airport.

FWIW, if they can't give you the seats you paid for you are entitled to a refund of the seat selection fee under Jetstar's so-called Customer Guarantee.

I wouldn't say don't fly jetstar, just don't bother paying for seats. It is what it is and as long as you have that mindset you'll be ok.

Have had this exact same scenario happen twice in the past year. On our last trip to HKT (via SIN) on JQ7 our seats were reallocated while we were flying HBA-MEL. My mistake was not checking the BP's issued for the MEL-SIN flight in MEL and not realising we had been moved until I got to the J lounge.

Had to walk (run) all the way down to the furthest gate from the lounge and then proceeded to have to argue my case with the gate supervisor who wasn't having a bar of it claiming that you cannot select a specific seat on the website and you can only choose a 'zone' and that they can move you wherever they like in that zone. Ended up calling reservations who moved up back to row 10. The daggers I got when I had to get the BP's reissued by the aforementioned supervisor. :D

Did you book 10A/B/C? A bassinet is there, so you may have been moved for that reason.

If a family with an infant wants a bassinet on JQ they should be liable for the seat selection fee like anyone else. Jetstar specifically state that if you don't pay for a seat you will be allocated what is left when you check in.

Being moved for bassinets is not unique to Jetstar. Its a pain but I dont expect a family to be offloaded so I can have that bulkhead.

So got to airport early, the legend Steve behind the counter sorted it all out and we sat in row 23 (exit row) instead of the originally booked 10 (no one with a baby in originally booked seats so that wasn't the reason for the error). There were 5 of us and the sixth seat was free so plenty of room so all happy.

Glad to hear you got a decent outcome. It's ridiculous (but not all that unexpected) that JQ would boot you for no reason.

I've now flown quite a lot with JQ this year and I can say this has happened to me, but only once. I find the JQ hard product on par with VA and with VA disintegration of service of recent years, the service level is also on par (VA's possibly still just a bit more polished, but bugger all in it). The F&B is far better than VA. So I wouldn't be quite so hasty as others have been to advise a blanket "don't fly JQ" ... they are on par IMHO. JQ also has some good benefits. The price between VA whY and JQ max (a comparable product) is about even but with JQ I cannot recall not being able to select 1C (my preferred seat) and most times 1B is a shadow. I cannot recall the last time I had a shadow in VA row 3! The one time when I was bumped from my "paid for seat", I complained to JQ and they issued me with a $100 voucher, which is adequate compensation IMO. All in all, I don't see much difference between JQ and VA. My only lingering concern is service recovery when a flight schedule goes bum-up! I have the feeling VA would shine far brighter than JQ in that regard and as such, I do make sure I have a solid contingency plan ready to activate (my preferred JQ flight is OOL-CNS or VV and the contingency is using BNE rather than OOL, which would be a PITA but workable)
