It is relevant to travel within the USA.

As for finding it, it was posted in a FT thread regarding 4 iPods going missing from checked luggage.

If you read the article linked, the fact that the carriage of your "Gun"* in checked luggage needs to be registered means that regulated oversight on your baggage is of a level that should prevent it from being targeted for theft.


(*which can be a $20 athletics starter's pistol)

Speaking to the Feds on a related matter regarding some of my property that ended up in someone else bag somewhere in the world ex JNB, they said the next worst airport for theft was LAX.
