Last year I achieved my Plat re-qualification a couple of months into my status year and made the deliberate decision to then diversify my flying (mainly to Nth America) away from OW to * Alliance, and I got to the top tier in Air Canada's program. (BTW, "Super Elite" somehow has a better ring to it than Platinum or P1 :) - does away for the need for DYKWIA .... )

I am now at that decision point again. I have the choice of keeping on with QF/1W and getting to P1, or to diversify away again.

The Air Canada program frankly isn't much chop, so if I diversify, I may choose the UA program.

The benefits of diversification are obvious - lounge access, priority services, accelerated points etc etc of the other main alliance carrier, so I can choose paid and Award flights more easily on schedule, convenience and price, rather than booking with achieving higher loyalty status as a significant factor.

However I don't have a great feel for the benefits of P1 - I have read many comments here and it seems to be a surprisingly mixed bag. That said, I've just re-read the benefits on the QFF P1 web page and it does seem to offer real, as opposed to 'feel good' benefits. Most of my flying is in international J, so the chances of complimentary up-grades would appear to be slimmer if, for instance I flew a lot of domestic Y.

Would P1s care to say whether the SC slog between plat re-qual and P1 qual is worth it in terms of additional benefits received? The benefits of Plat over Gold to me are obvious and quite material. Is it the same for P1 over Plat?

Have you perhaps considered AAnother AAirline? Of course, Doug Parker may screw that up at the end of the year, so I may retract my suggestion then =)

AA wouldn't get me diversity into another alliance - unless you mean punting QF completely, which is not on my agenda! Even with LTG in the bag, I'm too fond of the QF Flounges :)

If you're flying QF enough for P1, it's highly likely you could aim for AA EXP. That'll keep you in the QF Lounges, except when flying JQ of course ;)
