Hi guys, my wife and I are flying into Hong Kong at 3:35pm in Y and flying out the following day at 9:35am in F. Will we both have access to all the Cathay and Qantas J lounges and the Cathay F lounge? We are tossing up between leaving the airport and staying in a hotel overnight in Hong Kong city or roughing it in the airport.

with that long a layover why not go into town, you could easily stay at the W at Kowloon station which is only 30mins on the airport express

Yep I'm just exploring all our options. We both have priority pass, so we can technically get into the 24 Hr Plaza lounge for the hours the Cathay lounges are closed.

Had a similar flight in Oct and stayed at the Regal Airport Hotel which is adjacent to the terminal (you can walk in 10 mins or so from the departures level). I did this because I'd had a HKG stop on the way over and wanted to just crash.

But you can easily get a taxi to HKG and you can have a great meal in town that night and be back in a taxi and out to the airport for breakfast in the Cathay Lounge - it's extremely easy and inexpensive and you have PLENTY of time. Depending on your budget, I'd stay at the Intercontinental Kowloon which I think has better views than the other Kowloon hotels including the Peninsula. Dining with HKG at night sprawled out in front of me is always spectacular.

Big rooms club lounge was excellent too.

Can catch the fast train to town about 20mins if you want.

Assuming you land on time (335pm) you will easily make it into the City by 500pm at the latest. There is the W Hong Kong situated on top of the Kowloon Airport Express Station (so you'll get to there by 430pm). I would also suggest stay at the Langham Place in Mong Kok and go via taxi. (should be around 250-280HKD each way). Langham Place Hotel is connected to the big shopping mall, also right in the heart of Mong Kok - so there will be night shopping, restaurants all nearby.

I seriously doubt you'd get past the transfer desk to go back air side.
I was in a similar situation not that long ago. Arrived in HKG late in the evening and had a departure the next morning. Had no issues getting boarding pass and staying airside until my flight the next morning.

Staying in HKG airport overnight wasn't too bad. Quiet, free internet and plenty of places to sleep. Beats paying AUD150-200 + transport to stay in a hotel for a few hours.

Thanks JohnK, airport hotels are around $250/night during the dates we are travelling, and the nicer hotels (Conrad / W / Langham) are about $400/night. If we didn't have partial lounge access it's a no brainer, but with lounge access covering the majority of the layover ...

We are spending 5 nights in Kong Kong later next year also anyway.

Plus up to hour or so in passport and security queues (arriving then departing). But if you've not been to HK city before, it's worth it. Also with a 9:35am flight, it will be a very early start from the city if you'd like to breakfast in the F lounge before your flight.

Another option for the 3 or 4 hours that a lounge won't be available is to stay airside and book that time in a Plaza Premium Private Resting Area for USD80/person for a 3 hour stay (or USD93 for 4 hours). In the West Hall one you apparently get a private room with bed and en-suite. Better value for singles I suppose. It's bookable on-line for a specific arrival time. I've stayed at the Airport Regal Hotel too and it's fine for a rest but it's landside. I had 60 mins of HKIA queues plus 2 x 15 min or so walks each way to/from the hotel - so lost about 1.5 hours by going landside - which I admit is more of a consideration when your transit time is shorter.

I would be going into the city. Train to Central and a 5 minute taxi to any one of a number of good hotels in the (sub)$100 range (JJ Hotel - through booking. com, or the Metropark Wan Chai - through the hotel's own website).

As others have said you'll be there by 5 and can have a meal and a good sleep ready to enjoy your flight the next day. For a 935am departure I'd be leaving the hotel around 630, gets you to Central and on the train around 7. At the airport and in the lounge by around 7.30. Time to enjoy the F wing.

As a CX gold you are OneWorld Sapphire. You have access rights to any oneworld lounge prior to the departure of your flight. This would include the QF lounge if it's open. If you are departing in F, you will have access to the F lounge.

Interesting point.

My Thai fiancee said never again. Ants and sardines were her most used words in the 4 days we were there.

On that note. We spent 4 days in HKG and Macau which in my opinion was 3 days too long.

I guess we are all different.

That must be a different HK to the one I lived in and still visit quite a lot! :)

(maybe in the lounge by 8, as the train journey time alone is 24 mins)

Indeed! that would be a very quick trip!

But leaving wan chai around 630 should get you on the 640 or 650 train. The later one would give you 'in lounge' around 745.

John that is indeed a most interesting reflection. If it was a quiz I would have lost !!
