Optus to cease offering QFF points as of 30/06/15

Bugger. I'll almost certainly give Optus the flick after July in this case as I was only really with them for the QFF points.

General question: do those on contracts have a right to terminate the contract on the basis that the points promised at the time of signing the contract are no longer being offered?

Maybe vodafone can step in and partner with Qantas

Come on Telstra... :p

Optus obviously decided that it was better to keep their customers purchasing data to themselves, rather than sharing it with QFF and paying for the points to boot. Companies like telcos are realising the value of their customer data and I'd be surprised if Telstra would do this. Vodafone maybe for a period to drive some subscriber growth.

I absolutely agree. Highly unlikely that Telstra would sign up with QFF. One can hope though ;)

Great Question.

I suspect not, but I will shop around for a new carrier as soon as my contracts are up with Optus.

Qantas Frequent flyer points were the only point of difference between Optus & other carriers for my choice of Telco.

In all honesty, speaking for myself, I'm disappointed that Optus are still years behind their biggest competitor in terms of reception & speed of their mobile & broadband networks also.

Guess I'll be prepaying some bills before June 30...?

That's actually a terrific idea.

Pay your contract off ahead of the end of June, so that one earns the Qantas Points before Optus stops issuing the points out.

I received email notification from both Optus and Qantas. My "bonus" i somewhere between the amounts noted previously by others. I have home phone/internet bundle and recently reduced from two to one mobile phone - spending about $150 per month. Will wait for June and bonus to be paid and then consider options for moving carrier for home phone/internet bundle.

Haven't so far received any correspondence regarding this. Logged into my account and noticed that my contract expires on the first of July. Cant see me renewing with Optus, as the unlimited calls plan i'm on is quite expensive. Will probably port my number to Virgin mobile as they are on the same network. Wait and see I guess.

They also behind their other main competitor - Vodafone. My service is much better than Mrs_O's on Optus.

The new Optus plans are great value
$60 unlimited with 6GB of data for a SIM ONLY

Better than most others out there

As long as you are using a new phone that supports Optus 4G 700MHZ the reception is great

However, I am very very disappointed about the loss of QFF points, which were around 10K per year :(

This looks like it was initiated by Optus which is a shame for QFF.
Optus likely look at the partnership as a way to attract new customers and keep existing subscribers on their network.

If this is the case and Optus doesn't see much incremental benefit from the relationship - perhaps QFF could benefit from having proof their brand attracted new customers and increased retention at the same time. Funny, my company I sold 2 years ago did exactly this... for Optus... happy to be of service if this is your position Red Roo..

This has absolutely nothing to do with QFF.Singtel the parent of Optus is delisting from the ASX.Will be removed from the boards on 5th June.Hence less bennies for Optus to distribute.

Rainbowgirl, I am on Optus prepaid.
6x what they offer to you, they offered to me to stay till the end.
3000... what the...? Yes, 3000 point to me.
Will stay till then then.

A friend of mine has Optus pre paid and is also an Everyday Rewards and QFF member. When the Optus offer came out we signed up and linked the QFF account to the Optus mobile number. Unfortunately the email changed in the meantime and we haven't updated the account so I don't know if there was any offer of bonus points. I hope the offer doesn't have to be activated and the points will just arrive. The points were just an added bonus. They weren't the reason my friend kept the Optus phone number.
