We are travelling to USA early next year and are on a tight schedule. Part of our trip means we need to be in LA from Nashville for a Lakers game on a particular day. It is not an option to fly a day earlier.

Originally when I planned everything American Airlines had an early 7am direct flight so that worked and I booked that - that flight has since been cancelled and we were transferred to a late afternoon flight but that doesn't work for us. So our options are to take a non stop flight (AA) through Dallas that gets us there in time but is 7 hours of travel. We can drive to Atlanta (4 hrs) and get a 1.30 direct flight to LAX. Or there is a Southwest Airline direct flight from Nashville to LAX in the morning - this seems like a no-brainer but I have had bad experience with delays and cancellation on Southwest and not sure if I am willing to take that risk.

We like driving in the USA and are happy to do so - but just worry any delays driving from Nashville to Atlanta may result in missing the flight. Memphis does not have direct to LAX. Does anyone have any suggestions / comments?

A quick search on AA, says there is a direct BNA-LAX flight at 6:30am. Not sure when you are travelling next year, but I picked a couple of dates in April/May.

Also a 6:00am flight via DFW only a 42 minute layover. Also at 7:29 and 9:26am with about 50+ minute layovers?

But, I just picked a couple of random dates. May not be available on your date. Think via DFW is the way to go.

Thanks for that. Yes - our original flight and booking was the 6.30am direct, unfortunately on our day of travel (January) that one has been cancelled. I may have to consider the 9.26am via DFW - was just trying to avoid a stop! (I'm not a good flyer and anytime I can avoid an extra take-off I will!).

Thanks again.
