Looking for feedback on the best Q suites seat please - are the rear facing seats an issue

TIA

An issue in what way?

Your seat choice is either window/backwards or aisle/forwards, so depends if you want to be closer to the window or not.

From those seats available, personally, I'd take 5K/J, only because they are window seats, 1K is close to the front galley and the mini cabin shares a boarding door with Y.

I'd argue they are the best. You are alongside the window and slightly further away from the aisle. I flew in one earlier in the year and it was hands down, without a doubt, the best J seat I've ever flown. There's no issue with feeling as though you are travelling backwards - after take off you don't notice that.

I have travelled several times in the backwards facing Q Suites and found them excellent. Being closer to the window was nice and it feels a bit more private. As FlyingFiona said after take off you tend not to notice facing backwards. Actually I was a little bit disconcerted on the first landing as I was looking at the forward facing camera display and there was a bit of a disconnect with what you are feeling compared to what the screen shows you. Because the view looks 'normal' on the screen you feel like you are in an ordinary seat and then all of a sudden the deceleration comes from an unexpected direction.

We always try pick rear facing window seats as they are the most private. Just make sure the benches are clear of heavy things for landing.

5k is calling to me. 😂

I've never flown facing the rear and just wondered if it bothered anyone. Looks like I might change to 5K or 5J then

Thanks all

No worries on direction for me
I found windows better than middles when travelling alone (I found the middle console mildly uncomfy which I didn't notice when in middle as a couple)

Youll never notice the rear facing. I did 3A and 3K two weeks ago going to Europe, and ill be happy to stick with them on the way back. I wasnt expecting QSuites on the second flight but they changed from 787 to A320. Love the door privacy!

As I have posted previously, I am not a Q Suite fan boi.

I flew again in a Q Suite yesterday (seat 3A, DOH-TUN). Fundamentally, they are not comfortable, which is really missing their primary purpose. The absence of a leg rest or arm rests leaves you in a horrible limbo if you want to be in any position other than upright or fully flat. And the padding on the seat seems to be missing or in the wrong place. Although the space taken by the Q Suite is probably quite large, there is no in seat storage at all - so much so that even the menu card had no place to be stowed. The only way I could find to attract attention was a tiny call button on the handset which was not easy to see without actually taking out the handset and looking closely - and the button only seemed to work half the time.

The soft product was also all show and no substance - a curried prawn salad tasted only of a fridge, and the mixed grill (a couple of kebab shop staples) lacked any real flavour at all. The only high point that I could see were some interesting pineapple juice beverages.

I don't get the obsession with privacy. I am not a rock star and I am not a muslim - I don't care whether I can be seen and I assume other people care just as little about whether they can see me. I do not need (or want) a plastic divider to screen me off. Especially when the trade off seems to be sacrificing an actually comfortable seat. It is interesting that an early adopter of the privacy door, SQ, has quietly dropped the idea.

Sitting backwards, though, is not a big problem except at take off where the angle of the plane means you feel like you are being tipped out of your seat. I would rather face backwards than in one of the seats that doesn't quite face forwards where you find yourself twisting to compensate.

I think there's a need for seat designers to go back and ask what the basic requirements of an airline seat should be - and nail those - before they start with the fripperies.

Agree with others. Mid of the front cabin is the way to go. Services is impeccable no matter where you sit. It's not like QF where if you're at the back of the J cabin you're half way to your destination before you get a drink.

At check-in (or perhaps calling QR closer to departure) ask about the two middle seat seats that face backwards. If you can snag two together (ie lack of couples flying) that would be amazing. You're getting something close to a double bed in size for sleeping.

Didn't want to open another thread so will try here.

Flying MEL DOH MAN in J on QF reward points. QF LTG and QR Platinum

I'm assuming I'll be OK to get in the F lounge but does anyone know what time the F lounge in Melbourne is open atm.

Also - will I get PJ's on both legs -

Thanks

Can't help with lounge but I would think you'd get access. But we didn't get it in Adelaide and not even when it's open. But that's Adelaide. Likely only PJ on Mel-Doh leg. And a box of Diptyque products. Lip balm is wonderful as is the eau de cologne. On the leg Doha to Man you will get the same D products (which I really like) and they are in a nice pouch.
