Hi all,
I've tried looking this up, but am having trouble finding info from my iPhone.

I am traveling from New Zealand back to Australia, and currently have an opened bottle of alcohol with me. Is that ok to pack into my checked in luggage? The bottle is roughly half full (500ml) - will this count as 500ml against my duty free allowance, or will it count as if it were a full bottle?

Thanks for any advice :)

I generally have had no problems; make sure the seal is tight, wrap it in a plastic bag (or three), wrap it in some solid clothing and then place securely in the case (away from soft sides) to make certain.

Any quantity remaining will be considered as part of your allowance.

have done it heaps of times, and have never worried about declaring it. customs have never worried about it either.
just maybe better to transfer it into a plastic water bottle or something similar so as not to make your bag heavy with a glass bottle.

Have also done this a few times and did not declare it, they were less than half full and no issues except once in SYD. Did the half bottle of nice bourbon it got picked up, I pleaded insanity:shock:, but it counted as a bottle for the limits. Depends on the customs person I guess. I wrap them in clothes and put shoes on the bottom and top of the case.
