Heard from pretty reliable sources that CX op-ups takes status into consideration but SEQ is just as important. The bigger the number, the higher the chances. I had 3 upgrades out of 4 from CX during my last holiday, missed out on the first one eventhough Y was overbooked by 16 seats as I checked in too early (T-3).

A flight oversold in whY is okay as long as there's at least that amount of seats (it's oversold by) available a in a higher cabin on that flight assuming you're not going to checkin early. With some airlines if you left it too late you may be bumped off the flight altogether.

I was surprised to get a family op-up to J this week on BA. I have no status with BA other than a blue account I use for award searching. Both me and the wife are WP but I didn't think that would count for much with BA.

Your oneworld Emerald status most certainly does count with BA.

A bit of 'damned if you do and damned if you don't'. The late checkins run the risk of being bumped according to the threat on here about the couple downgraded from J to Y. Advice seemed to be to checkin online @ T24 :)

CX is currently mid transition to a new DCS (Altea - the same one QF uses).

With their old system, Quickcheck, status and the BN (ie. SEQ on QF) were used. They went through all CX diamonds, then CX golds, then OWEs etc, by BN. This was how you would get to be at the first of those in your tier - by checking in early.

With the new Altea system, it's now called SEC on the BPs. It remains to be seen if CX will continue with the old method, or adopt the ability to assign a PCV for each pax, like QF does. If they do adopt QF's PCV method, then OWEs may drop lower on the op-up hierarchy.

BA still uses a BABS-based DCS (I'm not sure of the name). BA sometimes will even op-up before the flight is open for OLCI. I have seen cases where they would op-up BA golds/OWEs 2 days before the flight, then BA silvers/OWSs on the day of departure.

I was thinking about this on my recent trip but was unable to use OLCI a few times. Luckily all OK.

I don't care about playing the op-up game especially when I need to be somewhere at a certain time.
