As much as I like Virgin and we have 2 Platinums and 2 Golds in the house, they seem to forget loyalty when they are open something new. They give it to the media who are sponsered by Qantas & Jetstar.

I think you misunderstand the point of a media launch.

I think you misunderstand the point of a media launch.
In an old life I went to plently of media launches and I am not in the media, but was a valued client. Having previously worked for a large Gaming establishment on the Yarra river I know to launches of products upgrades or new facilities that high end guests were invited to media launhes. So with respect I do understand.

Now i'm even more convinced you misunderstand the point.

I assume you are thinking they should invite all plats on the Gold Coast and not just you personally? If so, how the hell is that meant to work? Clearly the media event is a preview/ photo op/ schmoozing opportunity. A chance to get photos of the lounge in pristine condition, etc. The room clearly has a much lower capacity than a "a large Gaming establishment on the Yarra". According to ABT the capacity is 135. Throw in local TV, radio, press, (Gold Coast has all of the above), Virgin entourage, the obvious stakeholders/ photo ops (Gold Coast Suns anyone?) and then the whole point of getting a pristine lounge photo op/ looking spacious starts to disappear.

Whether they should do some sort of launch for FF'ers is a whole other question. With a capacity of 135 i'd suggest it depends a lot on how many they'd be obliged/ expected to invite. But to do it at the same time as the media launch would be flirting with disaster IMHO.

Dont belive I missed the point but you are entitled to your opinion as am I. I certinally dont think I should be the only Platinum invited, there are Platinums on the coast that do more flying than me that should have recived an invitation. Qantas just did a simple exercise with 787 on AFF perhaps DJ could have done the same. Please keep on convincing yourself I missed the point if it makes you happy.

And you would manage the capacity issues how exactly?

Media launches are no place for customers, even high revenue customers like WP FF's.

I have no issue with disappointment as the lack of FF launch, but to think that FF's should have been invited to a media launch is crazy.

I disagree but I am not in for a long winded argument just looking forward to 2pm Saturday to the true launch of the lounge and that is the AFF lounge visit.

Did AFF get an invitation? Given AFF frequently beats ABT to the punch, I'd have thought admin would have recieved an invitation to pass on to someone who can write a report quickly. Surely DJ are supposed to be very focussed on this "alternate" media. I could see markis10 there......or Lindsay.......or Liam........or Mal.....or mickey.....or..........????

Perhaps DJ like to involve the social media but are also very wary of the social media.

Like mickey, I'm looking forward to Saturday. 1400 sharp!

PS......I'm really impressed about Annette being involved........what's the bet QF are eying her off for a bit of headhunting?

I don't think any of Virgin's loyal customers got an invite to the lounge opening, because is a lounge, do people outside of AFF really care about airports and lounges enough to drive/fly to the airport just to see them?

I'd come up, but after four day trips this week, a going overseas for a five weeks in a month. I'm not in a rush to get on any more planes. I'll see it when I'm on the Gold Coast in three weeks.

I shall be there in a red QFM shirt! :)

Will happily be guested by anyone offering :)

QF already has the very talented Kendell, Manager Queensland Lounge Experience, who was doing a fab job in BNE the last time I spoke to her!

Now I understand that some of you will not agree with this but I just recived an invite to the launch of the lounge at Coolangatta. Just to clary what Virgin Australia advised me is that it is a lauch with a cross of section of the Community invited not just media. So I thank Virgin Australia very much and will provide a report. Could I please have another member from the Gold Coast private me as I have been given another invitation for tomorrow. First in First served its a 10am arrival for a 1030 till 11.30 function.
