And now for a break in normal programming to remind us of what can happen:

Whyalla Airlines - crushed by CASA.

Years later we get an accident report which finds the major fault lay with the engine manufacturer not the airline and the pilot also was in the clear. If only the owners of WA could have done the PAN thing and put these inept parasites out of business; except the similarly corrupt TGA still continues to live off our money of course.

One day they will kill the host. They absolutely could not give a rip about the people loosing their jobs, savings and businesses.

Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

Just reported this morning on news.com.au;

'GROUNDED airline Tiger Airways has stopped selling its tickets online as doubts remain whether it will ever fly again in Australia.

Last night night a Tiger spokesman said that following the five-day suspension of its domestic services by the aviation safety regulator, sales of tickets for flights have been temporarily suspended.'

Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

and the rest;

'Tiger had continued selling tickets for flights beyond Saturday on the assumption some of its planes would be flying again by Sunday.
The spokesman said Tiger remains committed to the resumption of services at the earliest opportunity.'

Well, the ACCC were waving a big stick at them about selling tickets.

Indeed, and this morning the ACCC made some comments on the tardy refund policy of Tiger.

I think all airlines have an issue with tardiness of refunds.

They do, but I suspect the ACCC have a disproportionate amount of "anecdotal evidence" (the ACCC words not mine) re Tiger.

Interesting...

And how is this for advice... One of my mates got caught up in the whole Tiger mess, got rescued by Qantas so all is good - but was checking out his travel insurance with Amex and they actually suggested putting in a charge back against Tiger ASAP rather than waiting for a refund...

Bit premature don't you think?? Or maybe they know something!!

"If you sell a ticket on a flight that you have no reasonable expectation of occurring, then clearly you are engaging in misleading and deceptive conduct," Mr Samuel said.

Really sounds like the ACCC has given Tiger zero chance to be flying after the five days is up.

I think the point the ACCC was making was that Tiger were selling tickets without adequate warning that they may not be able to fulfil the contract.

The fact that TT stopped selling may indicate their own uncertainty.

I would think that Amex probably just have experience of tiger being slow and painful with doing refunds, that they mostly end up as charge backs and just based their advice on that experience. I won't expect them to know any more than we do at this stage.

http://blogs.crikey.com.au/planetalking/2011/07/06/casa-to-seek-tiger-suspension-until-august-1/

CASA has just released this statement:
CASA TO SEEK TO EXTEND TIGER SUSPENSION
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is to seek to extend the suspension of Tiger Airways Australia Pty Ltd.
An application will be made to the Federal Court which will have the effect of continuing the suspension.
CASA seeking a continuation of the suspension until 1 August 2011.
The application will be lodged at the Federal Court in Melbourne.
If CASA completes its investigations and determinations before 1 August 2011 and is satisfied Tiger Airways Australia no longer poses a serious and imminent risk to air safety it may be possible for it to resume operations earlier.
The suspension of Tiger Airways Australia’s operations remains in place at until either the Federal Court refuses CASA’s application or CASA withdraws it.

It looks increasingly unlikely Tiger will fly again!

Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

OK so it looks like its all said and done... SO, what happens to the Aircraft? I understand that its a string of events and procedures that have caused this, and obviously our lovely Government officials see that its not in our interests for them to fly our friendly skies, however, if the problem was with maintenance on the 320s then who is going to check them for airworthiness before they leave OZ? or are CASA going to let them fly anyway??????
Oh and why the problem with maintenance? Was it John Holland Aviation services who maintained the fleet? I believe they look after The VA Fleet (Or part thereof). That says to me that it must have been a major internal matter, rather than maintenance problems as suggested. There is NO WAY JHAS would put their name to dodgy maintenace. So tell me then, what was the imminent risk to air safety?... Couldnt be paperwork, not JHAS, as they are professional and contracted to many other customers. The only matter that could be considered "imminent risk to air safety " would be flight crew.
Just my two bobs worth, but thats all it could be. Will have to wait for the autopsy report (sorry - CASA Report) to find out

EDIT: Jeez I just remembered its already 6 July, thats only a 4 week extension they have asked for, enough time to get traing standards up to date. So maybe if their pockets are big enough, it may be survivable...

wow - That is a long time to be unable to fly... I'm not ready to call this the end of TT, but I wouldn't want any money riding on this either...

Re: Ooh Tiger, you did it again and are grounded - fly below LSALT (lowest safe altit

May sound strange but I actually think a months suspension makes it more likely that Tiger will fly again,it gives them enough time to get their cough together
and make a good case to CASA for reinstatement of their AOC,the question of course is will SIA be willing to pump enough money in to the operation to fund the changes that need to be made to ensure that Tiger is a safe airline ,if SIA don't put up any more money then I can't see how Tiger can "straighten up and fly right' so that may change my perspective on their future.
Of course the other point is even if they do get their act together will anybody want to fly with them?
Cheers
