Online travel sites cry foul over airline fees

By Charisse Jones, USA TODAY
Airline fees are coming so fast that even some travel agents have a hard time keeping up.
Now, some who help plan and book travel are demanding that the travel industry come up with standards that would let them more easily provide and display up-to-date information on a flight's final cost, from the fare to baggage fees.

Call my cynical, but surely using a proper GDS will allow them to update things on the fly? Sure, the fees are shocking, but they're all in real-time. The only thing it's going to affect is their marketing, but that's their job :)

A proper TA will know these charges. Some of the online sites really shouldn't be known as TAs.Maybe they could be called the TTs of TAs.:lol:

The problems with some fees (baggage) is they can be opt-in and then there may be a choice to make (15kg, 20kg) etc. In some cases these can require work on the UI to correctly expose to consumers. On top of that, there is the issue of whether the fees are all stored in GDS in the same way.
