I'd appreciate assistance with the following thanks:

possible route:
bne-lax qf
jfk-dfw qf on aa
dfw-okc aa
okc-dfw aa
dfw-lhr aa
lhr-fco ba
fco-hkg cx
hkg-bne qf

a) Mileage: My plan may be to hire a car out of lax and travel to east coast. I'm sure I've read somewhere that I can't find now is all miles travelling, such as hire of a car, is included in total miles. So all miles I travel by car from one coast to the other is included in total miles. Am I right or wrong?

b) Am I able to book the ticket with QF on the different airlines travelled? For some reason I think this will enable me to access some of the o/seas lounges as qantas club member. Am I right or wrong?

c) Unsure that cx is oneworld but I'm sure I got points when used previously from hkg to fco. Am I right or wrong?

d) As the gps is expensive to hire for travel, I thought I would purchase one, has anyone done this. I can leave with family in states.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Sorry if this comes across as school quiz. It's due to the fact that I need things clearly explained to be able to understand.

Retirement coming up, so one last hurah overseas.
cheers, trish

Can help with a couple:

CX is oneworld so no problem there.

Quote fro Qantas Club Diary 2008:

"If you are a Bronze or Silver Frequent Flyer and are a Qantas Club member you can visit British Airways and American Airlines lounges but no oneworld alliance airline lounges"

This gets me off 287 posts.

You should be OK at JFK, DFW (AA has great lounges here) and LHR (BA) as well as HKG (QF) Have a good trip.

a) If this is to be an Award trip using FF points; surface segment mileage is included in distance calculation. If an xONEx it still counts as a segment, but not one of your 6 available N/A segments.

b) QF, CX, BA, AA are all oneworld partners. You should be able to book the travel with "QF". QP membership gives access to BA and AA lounges (not "associated" -eg BA CGD) when your onward travel is with the respective carrier. Not so for CX.

c) see b) (although, if it's an award trip you won't get points anyway)

d) can't help

Good luck ...

thanks all for the replies. lovely coolish sunday afternoon in the afternoon, bit overcast so putting in alot of time and letting my imagination run riot.

since my initial post i'm thinking of west coast to east coast by amtrak. my ? remains the same, will the milage be included in total miles. this will determine which fare i have to purchase.

paid ticket, not award.
cheers and thanks again

It depends upon the fare type:

e.g.
  • xCIRnn - Mileage included
  • xONEx - Segment counts as one of the 20 max.
