Hi all,

Just after some confirmation that my thinking is heading in the right direction when it comes to (not bothering with any of) this...

Situation as follows:

  • Based in Thailand (CNX)
  • Don't have any Aussie Credit Cards, nor do we currently qualify for any (have lived out of Oz too long and business is based o/s)
  • Fly intra-Asia/S.E. Asia a few times a year (budget carriers)
  • Fly International long-haul every 18 months/2 years
  • Happy to purchase points when it makes financial sense for J or F International long-haul award seats
  • Don't fly often enough to warrant Priority Pass membership investment
Am I on the right track??

Cheers

It doesn't hurt to have a frequent flyer program where you can collect points. Sometimes even small amounts (10,000) can come in handy if one day you need a flight at short notice and fares are expensive.

If you are purchasing points for flights then you have a couple of choices... Lifemiles (Avianca, member of star alliance) is a good one to have (and if you are based in thailand there should be reasonably good availability). Also American Airlines (oneworld). Free to join both of those and you need to be a member for a set period with each before you can buy miles (so might as well join today). Alaska Airlines is another one for cheap JAL flights within Asia.

Living in Thailand however you're going to have access to cheap fares to Europe in business class. The Avianca ao AA miles may be helpful for flights to Oz.
