Hi,
With my OW RTW flight I have booked for the end of 2004, all of my flight segments are considered "discount economy", and as such only get 25% points on BA, 50% points on AA and 50% points on Cathay. This really irks me. Does anyone know of someway to circumvent this problem(other than just avoiding BA, AA and CX)?

Is there any other OW airlines that dont give 1QFF point per mile that i should be aware of?

Thanks guys,
Sam.

I hate to tell you this, but the situation is even worse than you think.

RTW segments are now booked in "L" class (they were previously in "M"), and AA "L" segments are not eligible for points at all. Follow this link for details.

I don't know if the situation changes on AA metal with a QF flight number, but I hope so since I am doing one of these next Monday.

Just to update this. My AA operated flight booked on a QF number did indeed give me points and status credits which were the same as if the flight were operated by QF.

Glad I asked my travel agent to change my booking from the AA number.

Hey Guys,

The simple solution to your problem is to fly Star Alliance.

clifford. :)

From what I understand though, *A is going the same way as OW LONE(i.e. you get robbed of all points when flying on partner airlines in discount economy) as of August 1 2004. So it doesn't help me, as my trip commences in Nov.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, the *A RTW fares offer nowhere near the value or flexibility of OW RTW fares, as all *A RTW fares are mile capped.

You may be right. Remind me again, which *A airline I can use for my Australian domestic flights? :D

Hi Alan,

If you're in Canberra, you could take the Murray's bus (it can cost as little as $10). Probably quicker than QF, and no fog worries.

How do I know? I've used it several times myself recently. Good service!

Regards,
clifford.

Clifford,

Sure, that works for Sydney. My last domestic flight (last week) however was a CBR-BNE return. Ain't no way I'm sitting on a bus all the way to Brisbane!

Cheers,
Alan.

You're right Alan, bus to Brisbane can be a teensy bit boring.

Let me say up front that I am a UA *G (1K, Million Miler), so I've been around the traps a bit. Never fly Y class internationally, UA sees to that. Gave QF away years ago. Fly VB in Oz.

Anyway, getting back to sambo's problem...
Not sure where the concern about no points for discount economy on Star partner airlines from 1 Aug is coming from. I spoke to Asiana (a nice airline) yesterday and they confirmed that they will give 100% mileage credit until 30 Sept, 70% thereafter (looks like QF has got to them).

I'm travelling to SIN, BKK on SQ in Sept, and they have confirmed that I'll get 100% mileage credit on a lowly "M" class fare. I know from personal experience that LH and TG give 100% credit for discount economy, and UA certainly do. There are a few airlines like BMI in Europe that are a bit stingier, but you can easily avoid them if you wish to.

So I'm not sure what the problem is (I guess I must have missed something then).

Regards,
clifford.
