Oneworld RTW award?

Maybe I am confused, I am sure that was in there somewhere, but I can't find it. If that's the case, one could do MEL-KUL-IST-KUL-SYD-LAX-MEL

Actually I wasn't confused, it's not in the oneworld award section, but it is a T&C for ALL classic awards, including the oneworld award:

14.3.5 A Classic Award Itinerary must contain no more than one departure from the city or country of first departure on that Itinerary.

Ok thanks.
But multiple times through the one country that is not the country of first departure should be fine ?

You can go through the same city (not the originator city) more than once can't you ? As long as there's only actual stop and the rest are <24 hr stopovers ?

Even for a transit ?
Wasn't there some sort of exception/allowance for stoppages for <24 hours ?

Yeah in every country except the country of origin.

The 2 relevant rules are:

1 stopover, 2 transfers maximum per city

and

1 departure from the city or country of origin.

I tried it in my mock example earlier. There was one stopover and 2 transfers in Syd, which was fine. But when I tried to come back from SCL via AKL, it wasn't allowed, because that was the city of origin.

Ok thanks.

Can you transit (<24hr) through the same city more than once ?

If anyone was wondering, I think I have solved my earlier dilemma regarding which flights are allowed on the oneworld award.

BA Cityflyer - Allowed
Dragonair - Allowed
AA flight number operated by Skywest - Not Allowed

Is 5 the absolute maximum number of stop overs on a 280k RTW ?

Yes.

This might save some time:

14.5 Classic Awards - oneworld Award booking conditions
14.5.1 A oneworld Award is a Classic Award Itinerary that includes travel on at least two oneworld Alliance Airlines other than Qantas and does not include any travel on any airline that is not a oneworld Alliance Airline.
14.5.2 Classic Awards using the oneworld Classic Award table must be no more than a distance of 56,315 kilometres (35,000 miles). Longer journeys must be broken into separate Itineraries.
14.5.3 A one way oneworld Award Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. oneworld Award Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Points required to redeem the Flight Award and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.
14.5.4 The following Stopover conditions apply:
(a) up to five free Stopovers are permitted;
(b) additional Stopovers are not permitted;
(c) only one Stopover is permitted in any one city in the Itinerary; and
(d) only two Transfers may be taken at any one city in the Itinerary.
14.5.5 Surface Segments are permitted as part of oneworld Award Itineraries, but the distance between the disembarkation point and the next embarkation point will be included in the Award Point zone calculation for that Itinerary.
14.5.6 Where mixed-class travel is booked, the whole Itinerary will be calculated using the Points level for the highest class booked.

AND

14.3.5 A Classic Award Itinerary must contain no more than one departure from the city or country of first departure on that Itinerary.

Ok. Then how come people talk about "upto 16 segments".
How would it be possible to have anything remotely close to 16 segments if only 5 stopovers and 2 transits are allowed ?
