I updated my oneworld electronic timetable yesterday and started doing some planning today only to find that OW now have on online itinerary planner that is validated against the oneworld fare rules - I am just running through it now to see what it is like :)

oneworld - Itinerary Planner

I will post the first Itinerary I run and see if it lets me do some interesting status runs :D

I think that planner is fantastic, i have lots of fun making up imaginary itinerarys..

Just working through it at the moment. It is very good so far - a dramatic improvement on the old planner built into the timetables software.

I might be at its limit though as I am trying to earn 35,100 qpoints and 900 SCs on one DONE ;)

Well after some jiggery pokery I have an itinerary but the online tool wont accept it - I think due to flights through asia. The itinerary is:

syd-sin-nrt-dfw-lax-jfk-hel-lhr-dxb-lhr-hkg-akl-bne-adl-per-syd

Only 15 flights and with some very careful posting of points (including some very careful examination of the BP) will get me to 99213 Qpoints and 1400 SCs... and if I take this trip I will be around travelling until at least December so that should take care of the final 750Qpoints required...

The thing I find interesting about the OWE planner is that it claims it is "Fully validated against oneworld Explorer rules". Now if this is the case, then there are some cases where the 'city of origin' rule is clearly loosely applied.

E.g. (the one I most care about) SFO-SJC-OAK count as three separate locations (as they should :-). So one can start a *OWE* in SFO, return to SJC and still have some sectors left over for NA. Now, I can't find anything definitive on the co-terminal rule, so I'm going with the OWE planner interpretation for now. I think it's only fair, really - if Oneworld are going to count using different terminals in the same 'city' as a segment, then we can use the same logic to avoid returning to a city of origin. As for OW seeing that way, well...

And I thought everyone knew about it already - I used it to plan my last two DONE4s (Jan08 and Apr-May08) it is so much easier then the one within the OW Timetables tool (which I do use still for timetables, flight times etc) and allows you to graphically see your trip as well.

I started to use it to plan my DONE4 but found it wasn't completely in agreement with the individual airline timetables. And yes, I did update before using it.

It won't let me plan a trip starting in ADL and ending in MEL, despite that being permitted under Oneworld rules.:(

One thing to be aware of is that some of the fares cited may be out of date. When planning a Circle Asia & South West Pacific fare the currently posted price for a J fare from AUS "Circle Asia & SWP< 13,000 miles " is Business AUD4,649

is incorrect. Speaking with Qantas tonight the current fare is $5599 plus taxes, a big difference and one that means I will stick to my original trip rather than having a jaunt through Asia. :( The last update shown on the page is 10 May.

Still a looking forward to travelling in J later this year.
