Oneworld Explorer on FF Points

Award flights using QF FF points are not based on continents (as with the OneWorld Explorer fare), but are based on total miles flown. The rules for a QF OneWorld Award are very different to a OneWorld Explorer fare. The points required for the various OneWorld Awards are detailed on the Qantas FF web site.

Note that a OneWorld Award does not need to an Around The World itinerary. The rules for the Qantas FF OneWorld Award are detailed in section 13.5 of the FF terms and conditions found here.

Thanks NM.

I'll still aim for the 142,500.

I'm basically looking to go SYD - AKL - LAX - JFK - LHR - (somewhere else in europe) - Hong Kong - DPS - PER - SYD.

You may be able to save 2,500 points by booking your itinerary online; it really depends where "(somewhere else in europe)" is.

Note that HKG-DPS is a tough one as only CX do that segment these days and there's been problems for several months with booking CX award flight segments using qantas.com.

I booked a CX award flight over the phone and got the 2500 points fee waived - there were plenty of seats available for the days I was looking at because currently they can't be accessed online.

I've actually used this option recently. You are only allowed 5 segments maximum and must use two oneworld carriers other then QANTAS (ie. BA & CX). If flying between 19,201-35,000 miles the cost is 140k points (Y) + 2.5k for booking over the phone.

While I wasn't aware of the CX booking problem these days the online booking system is much much better with most of the main and semi-main destinations listed so not much need to ring up and waste 2.5k pts (maybe to change dates but not charge for that).

It wasn't that long ago that the AA flights did not display online which cut you down if wanting to move around in the USA :shock:

Relevant section:
13.5.4 The following Stopover conditions apply:
(a) up to five free Stopovers are permitted;
(b) additional Stopovers are not permitted;
(c) only one Stopover is permitted in any one city in the Itinerary; and
(d) only two Transfers may be taken at any one city in the Itinerary.

Good luck with your travels.

To clarify, methinks that 'segments' actually refers to 'stopovers' as in rule 13.5.4.

DOH! Knew there was a reason I mostly lurk :)

I just booked one recently and it cost 140,000 FF points booking over the phone. They agreed to waive the 2,500 FF points booking fee at it was a complex itinerary that the award booking engine would not process. Calculating the taxes and surcharges also crashed the QF reservations PC and taxes were finally calculated manually. Also the e-ticket itinerary did not issue automatically and had to be issued manually and it was sent to me about 1 week after the booking.

The final itinerary is SYD-MEL-LAX-IAD-STL-(ORD)-LHR-(ATH)-(LHR)-(FRA)-HEL-ZRH-(HEL)-BRU-LHR-HKG-SYD. It uses all 16 sectors and 5 stopovers but there are a few stopovers of <24 hours which do not count towards stopover entitlement.

Have fun trying to create an itinerary and use some imagination if direct routings do not have availability.

Once upon a time I was told that the flying was only half the fun; I didn't believe it. :rolleyes: I do Now ... :cool:

serfty,

Depends whether you have one of the two very front seats or not :!:

My wife so does not understand. "You could save a lot of time by going a more direct route," she advises me.

Well, yes dear. But in my everyday job I'm not gazing down upon distant continents, or being lifted on magic hands up into the air, or spending time watching these marvellous flying machines trundle around huge terminals.
