Oneworld Emerald privileges on Cathay Pacific

Coming back through customs from AKL a couple of weeks ago, I was talking to the Customs guy manning the express lane and asked him if it really was all that quicker. His reply was that there is no difference really between express path and regular lines, it just keeps some fliers happy to think they have received a privilege befitting their sense of importance. I must admit, it didn't seem to make much difference in the speed I cleared customs. I wouldn't be too fussed in not getting an express card, particularly if I was only flying in Y.

I agree with you. Just yesterday after arrival from LAX on QF12 was amused to see the express queue longer than the normal queue. On arrival only advantage I have seen with express passes is after baggage collection, going through Food/plants check,

On departure also is much the same, no real difference for passport control and only marginal difference with "priority" security screening.

In Sydney the express pass outbound is useless.
The express inbound customs is sometimes useful depending on the time of the day.
Sydney early morning flight 6~7am from asia creates massive queues.

I save my express pass if I don't use it and give it to my friends.

that would be from your perspective.
A few people getting better treatment on CX over QF does not make it the norm. In fact the majority of reports on AFF are that people get nothing more than published benefits.

People should not expect exceptional treatment from CX because they will be disappointed most times.

My original statement stands.

I was 2 for 2 on upgrades from Y to Y+ on BNE-HKG and HKG-BNE legs two weeks ago.

I surely was looking or expecting an upgrade, but it was appreciated:cool:

Cheers
