Hi, hoping someone can help me - I have a flight to the US later this month with Qantas which includes some internal flights with Americal Airlines, a Qantas partner airline via OneWorld.

My travel agent (who has not been helpful) booked me economy on the return leg from New York to LAX, after which I get on another economy flight from LAX to SYD. I wanted to travel that AA leg flight business class if I could.

I want to use my QFF points to upgrade the AA flight from JFK to LAX, but can't find out who to contact. QFF says its an AA matter, but AA has no Australian offices and its website gives phone numbers for use only within the US and the UK. Undeterred I have actually tried both of those, but was disconnected each time.

The OneWorld website gives no contact details at all.

I feel like I'm running in circles! (With scissors!) Can anyone help??

You cannot use QF points to upgrade any flight that is not on Qantas metal (aka. a plane with a big kangaroo painted on the tail), nor any flight where you are using another airlines flight number (aka any flight that doesn't start with QF eg. QF007).

I think you are out of luck looking for an upgrade.

Thanks; I'm quite happy to PAY for an upgrade (TA was supposed to have booked it) but coulsn't find an AA contact number.

Someone else has kindly given it to me now so I will renew my attempts tomorrow.

It's very strange - when you look for tickets on the AA website, it doesn't give you the option of choosing business class. You can see the cabin, and see that there is a business class seating area on a particular flight, but when searching for flights there is no way of nominating business class. Really irritating!

AA only offer business class on a very few number of trans-continental flights. Otherwise their domestic flights are all 2-class, being First and Coach (economy). Even if operated by a 3-class aircraft such as a 777, the business class seats are sold as coach.

When using the aa.com web site, select "More Options" tab in the "Make Reservation" window. Section 5 on that page is entitled "What is your cabin preference?". Select one of the business class options (With Restrictions or Full Fare)/ It works for me.

Trying to access your favourite Australian websites when overseas only to discover they have been geo-blocked? Concerned about your internet privacy especially when using unsecured wifi? NordVPN will solve both these common problems.
