Thanks. Funnily enough I changed a booking with QR segments (adding additional flights only) and it was ticketed within the half hour. The QR segments are still there. What ended up happening with your booking?

30 mins to have it re-issued in my case would've meant the QR seats disappeared... very very unusual and certainly not the norm.

There's been some back and forth with QR's oneworld helpdesk to get the seats reinstated, but nothing firm yet.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all, this is my first post on here so hopefully my questions aren't too annoying.

1) If I book say the first couple of flights on the 280k ticket through the multi city on the qantas site, can I then (say a week later when the next flight is released) still continue to add more flights to that original booking, or do I have to call up the qantas help desk (and wait the 1hr+)?
2) I'm having a lot of trouble finding any relevant flights from the east to west coast of the US. It seems that their 'first class' is more like half way between premium economy and business for the rest of the world? I know I can't take any 'first class' flights, as that would change the tickets from 280k to 420k, but does anyone have any advice on where to look for good flights or what to do? The AA website is terrible, and Qantas is only offering my economy or first class options. Should I just accept that getting from the east to the west will result in ~5 hours economy?

TIA

Welcome :).

I'm new myself but have read most of this thread.

Other people will probably be able to provide more insight, but in relation to question 1, I believe that once you have booked the first section of your award, you aren't able to make changes online and have to call up for each change (and pay the 3,500 points in change fee).

In terms of the 1hr+ wait, there's usually a call back service offered, which doesn't get rid of the annoyance of not getting through, but at least means you don't have to be on the phone the whole time. I have also found that if i call after about 10PM (WA time, so midnight EST) I seem to get through quickly/immediately. Just depends on whether calling at that time works for you :).

For number 2, I believe that AA runs JFK-LAX flights on an A321T, in a three class config, Y, J and F. So it has a business class and I would hope you would be able to find award availability on it. I think AA releases availability 330 days in advance if that makes any difference to your searches.

Hope that helps :)

Yes. No issue at all doing this. Will just cost 3500 each change (not flight, but each phone call, can make multiple changes, add multiple flights and will be one 3500 point fee. No $$ for a business class booking)

As per Austom's post, the AA 3 class flights are the ones you want to target.

TIA

Words to make up.

Why not take QF on JFK-LAX? It's much easier to get availability on that flight. AA releases very few seats on the A321T transcons.

Great point, I hadn't even thought of that.

Is it true that you aren't able to buy that flight as a revenue ticket without connecting with a flight to/from Australia, but you can book it standalone as an award flight?

Off topic, but would it be available on a paid Oneworld RTW ticket booked through QF (DONE5).

I just asked Qantas chat, who said it could be booked through points, but had to have a max layover of 24 hours in LAX before going onto Aus

You might want to try again on that - we have JFK-LAX on QF12 then 15 day layover then QF12 LAX-SYD.
When looking at the AA 3 class JFK-LAX, we found 2 J on most flights, but only on Saturdays....this was about 270 days out (June for March travel)
We had booked 2 x 2J before finding 4xJ on Qf12 and changing to be all on the same flight

I have QF12 in J booked for JFK QF LAX <stop> LAX CX X/HKG CX SYD on an award so it can be done. You do not have to connect to a QF flight back to AU.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Just noticed OneWorld have put up a note saying as of 1 October they will no longer provide a downloadable schedule. I don't know about you guys but I find the OneWorld app invaluable for planning these awards. Id be lost if I had to rely on airline websites.

Do you know what the 'rule' is exactly?
I had QF12 JFK-LAX stop AA73 LAX-SYD, and QF rang and said they ticketed that in error, and had to remove the AA flight....

I'm assuming they mean the PDF downloadable files... At least I hope so! The positioning of the message is a tad confusing.

Do you have any other QF international flights in the ticket?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Correct me if I'm wrong: I think you are not allow to fly domestic with a non-US carrier unless you have an International connection. I.e. you have to fly both jfk-lax and lax-syd legs to be eligible for QF12.

Not sure how the CX onward flights are ok.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

AA has been showing phantom QF availability recently so it could also be that...

Hows this...

I give QF a call asking to confirm availability. They couldn't see the AA listed QF award flight, but quoted another flight altogether NOT listed on QF or AA booking engines!??

So how can the call centre be quoting award flights not available on the web?
