"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Just a quick one world award question, I'm planning to do a OW in J in 2017, and am currently saving points with Mrs.Radio. The question is, is is better to pool all the points into one account when it comes time to book so we can see and book the reward seats at the same time? Other wise I would imagine that I could book first only to have no availability when she books hers?
Not sure how it is done but would appreciate any feedback, I know it's early but I like to do my homework early.

I have only ever booked these over the phone. You book both seats at the same time so you have the same PNR. When it comes time to "pay" (points & fines), the agent will arrange to take the points from the account(s).

In one case, +1 didn't have enough points in her account so the agent got me to transfer a few across so he could take 280k from each account. Not sure if this was the only way he could have done it or just the most convenient.

So... IME it doesn't really matter as long as you have enough points between you.

If you want to have a go at booking your RTW online (I did), then you will need to have enough points in the one account. It's very easy to transfer points.

Always better to have all points in the one account so that you book both pax and baggage on the one booking number (PNR). If on different PNR's there's a greater risk (albeit a relatively small one) that one of you could be offloaded/shifted to a later flight etc etc. if the flight was overbooked.

Thanks for the helps, like I said it's a long way off but it's in line with what I was thinking, not even sure on destinations yet, still plenty of reading to do

Hi everyone.
My last attempt at qff trip was thwarted by my need to b part of a group booking.
Now i am starting again. Last time i was really confused by how people were finding their flights. Can i please have advice on. ..
Where do i go (what site ) To find the following flights.
Qff 280000 points
4 adults
Perth to new York rtn
Approx 7 days in new york
durig the last 2 weeks of july 2016
The cheapest way possible to get us there.
Plus advice on accommodation would b great. Last time i could use one room but now need 2 rooms and the cost is ridiculous.
This is my 50th dream. Would love to make it work.
Thank you.

Canada - can't help you too much with the detailed points gathering and using, but can recommend a hotel in NYC. It is The Edison, and has a historical connection to the Thomas person. It is a couple of doors off the top end of Times Square, with a Starbucks across the road, and only 50m from where they have all the off-loaded tickets for sale for the shows in and around that area. We also had good travel arrangements, flying PE with CX doing a one stop flight from PER-HKG-JFK. So many must sees in NYC, will only say start with Ellis and Liberty islands, a river cruise around Manhattan Island, and any Broadway show that takes your fancy.

Thanks Franky. Funny you should say that. Edison was the last hotel booking i canceled before deciding on novotel. The Internet reviews Really put me off. Good to hear you were happy with it.

From memory, we were there Feb 2013, haven't read their review since.

wrong thread. This one is specifically about Round the World (RTW) trips booked via Qantas classic OneWorld award that requires 140K Qantas frequent flier points per person as a minumum. You only have 280K and that's for 4 people, right? that's not enough, it's only enough for 2 people to go around the world

Yes, thanks. I'm wondering if i could get 2 there for 'free' under frequent flyers then Pay/earn for other 2. Would prefer we all stayed together but would split flights if savings large doing it that way.

Yep, still the wrong thread. You're just looking to book return PER - JFK. Assuming you do that on Qantas, that's 128,000 pts. No need to be looking at a 140,000k Oneworld award.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Mrs jxv and I had finally clocked up enough QFF points for two OW 280k awards! We have planned our travels for 2016, booked the flights and I am now waiting for re-ticketing after the final change. This post is meant as inspiration for those who are looking for ways to use their points.

I love the creativity in the planning by jxv - leveraging a "cheap/included" cruise airfare, along with the OW Award to enjoy 2 trips to Europe and one trip to S/E Asia. Very inspirational.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

If you search via multi-city you will find good availability for at least 2 persons (Y) for PER-DXB-JFK (on EK) or PER-SIN-DXB-JFK for 64000pts. You can also travel via BOS if you don't mind an extra connection. I haven't looked at return flights but you could benefit from a 140k award which would offer options such as returning from JFK via HKG on CX. That's quite good value for an extra 12000pts but you will have taxes/charges of about $400 each way.

I cannot take full credit for this creativity: Gold Member, in his posts on http://www.australianfrequentflyer....program/qff-points-price-and-value-46109.html mentioned a similar construction.

The advantage is that you can break the award up in multiple trips spread over a year, the disadvantage is that you "waste" two of the five allowed stops on being at home.

To clarify, you can't use EK in the 140,000 point award. So the only 1 stop option to JFK is with CX via HKG if you do a 140k award. You also need to fly 2 oneworld airlines (exc Qantas). You could possibly try to return on an American Airlines flight to Asia and then CX home to Perth... but will be hard as CX / AA release seats at different times. Could also consider adding a internal AA flight on.

So maybe to LA then home. ....

Actually, I forgot one option... Qatar. You could do PER>HKG>NYC>DOH>PER or vice versa. Both Cathay & Qatar release seats fairly well in advance and I don't think they charge massive taxes/fees. Also meets 2 OW carriers requirements.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I'll be booking the final leg of my 280K J One World Award in just over a week and plan to fly from JFK to SYD via HKG with CX. Although I've transitted through HKG before I've never visited Hong Kong so am considering making it a transit stop with a flight arriving into HKG from JFK at 0515 and then a flight from HKG to SYD at 2130 or 2355.

For anyone has has experience travelling or transitting through HKG I'd appreciate some advice - When you check in at JFK would they check your luggage through to SYD if you have a 16+ hour transit time? I see that CX has an arrivals lounge at HKG so we could have a shower and some breakfast there before heading into the city for the day.

I usually travel with a camera bag and a laptop bag but would only want to take my camera bag around for the day. Are there lockers or anywhere I could leave the other bag at HKG until I return to the airport? Also if I can't check our bags straight through to SYD I would also need somewhere to store them at HKG unless I could then check them in as soon as I arrive.
