Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

To book MH you must go via the phone. To see its availability you need to get a free account at the BA Exec Club or a search tool like KVS or AwardNexus.

Dale.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Anyone able to look at this and pick out why booking it online doesn't give me the OW RTW award?

VSi8S.png

Surface sectors?
The DXB-DOH-TXL flight?
First on AA domestically? (there's no Business on those flights)
Premium Economy on BA49? (there's no Business on that flight either! Just Economy, Premium Economy & First)

Or is it all ok, but I should book it in on the phone as the options I've made aren't online booking friendly?

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

If you are trying to book a J RTW, then you cannot have sectors in AA F. A J RTW must have sectors in business, premium economy or economy only.

Mileage is just over 31k miles and is fine.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

you cannot have sectors in AA F

When paying for an OW RTW ticket, they'll bump you up to First on flights that are just Economy & First, hah. I guess on the award they bump you down to Economy instead :(

I've changed the first class flights to economy, and it displays a one world Award after I pick the AA DFW-HKG flight - BUT, when I select a HKG-MEL flight (in Business or Economy), it reverts to a Partner/Classic Award :(

Anyone know why?

You have 6 stopovers which is one too many.

Ahhh thanks! What constitutes a stopover? Is it a 24hr+ gap between flights?

Also - is there a way to pay for the taxes and whatnot with points on the oneworld Award, or will I have to stump up the cash?

Yes, a stopover is 24 hours or more. 23hrs and 55 mins is not ;)

Not sure about your taxes question but I'm pretty sure you have to pay the taxes with cash.

Although it does say this (my underline below):
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

14.3 Classic Awards - booking conditions

14.3.1 In addition to the Points required for a Classic Award, Members must pay (or, where offered, redeem Points for) all identified Award Assistance Fees, taxes, fees and carrier charges (including GST). This applies to all Classic Awards, whether these are provided by Qantas, a oneworld Alliance Airline or an Airline Partner (including Jetstar Airlines). Further information about taxes, fees and carrier charges applicable to Classic Award bookings may be found on qantas.com

Edit: found this too:

http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/usingPoints/flights

Does the points redemption amount include taxes, fees and carrier charges?

• No. For Classic Award flights, taxes, fees and carrier charges are payable in addition to the points required, are subject to change and are quoted at the time of booking.[SUP]≠[/SUP] However, Qantas Point levels inclusive of taxes, fees and carrier charges are offered on eligible wholly Australian and New Zealand domestic and selected international (departing Australia) Classic Awards.

[SUP]≠[/SUP] The taxes, fees and carrier charges can be paid by using an Accepted Payment Card.

Hmm, cheers for that info Kangol - maybe if I do the booking on the phone, they'll offer me the opportunity to pay for the taxes with points?

Can someone clarify a query I have regarding AA domestic flights as part of a OW RTW in J?
I know some AA dom. services out of LAX (to SFO, JFK & LAS) have 3 classes and others are 2 class; and I understand that on a J RTW ticket QF are likely to book us into Y on services with only Y & F.
But is it correct to assume that J seats would be available (as part of our RTW award) on AA flights if a search for award flights on the AA website shows "Business/First Mile SAAver" fares available (as opposed to any seat awards)? (These are the ones highlighted in light blue on their site - Y is green and F is dark blue).
The notation for these awards states "Valid for Business/First on flights with 2 classes of service and Business class on all other flights". I guess what I really need clarified is, if we use QFF points to book our flights, will QF book us into J (or F) on any AA flights where the AA website indicates there are "Business/First Mile SAAver" awards available?
Phew, that sounded longwinded.......but just trying to avoid ambiguity -> want to design an itinerary with as few Y segments as possible.

Qantas will book you into AA J only (on the new A321 3 class transcontinental service) if your ticket is in J (280k award). If it's a 2 class aircraft, you'll be booked into Y. To get an F seat on either 3 class or 2 class service you need to have a F ticket (420k).
my experience with a similar booking - me and partner going on an AA flight from SFO to JFK in September, it's a J ticket (280k) - has shown that there is only ONE J seat on all these 3 class services available on each day. We ended up splitting our booking and going on two different flights within 4 hours of each other, just to avoid AA Y, this was the only way.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all
I'm planning a RTW 420k point trip in June next year. Here's the plan with dates tba - dependent on availability.

SYD-MEL QF Overnight stop < 24 hours
MEL-LAX QF93
LAX-LAS AA Stop 1
LAS-LAX AA Overnight stop < 24 hours
LAX-JFK AA Using AA's Trans-continental A321 service
JFK-BOS AA Stop 2, and make own way to JFK
JFK-LHR AA
LHR-CPH BA Stop 3
CPH-LHR BA
LHR-BCN BA Stop 4 and make own way to MAD (or vv)
MAD-LHR BA Stop 5
LHR-HKG BA
HKG-SYD QF A380 service

13 sectors in total, 7 stops of which 2 aren't counted.

One of the objectives, since I'm travelling in F, is to take advantage of 'home' airlines' full services where possible. For example, flying Qantas in and out of Oz to score chauffeurs and bookable spa treatments in the lounge :)

Wish me luck with the award availability fairies. I think the short-haul AA, QF and BA trips should be fine (even the AA LAX-JFK seems okay in F, less so in Y) - it's QFi that always seems to be the trouble. Not sure about AA across the pond or BA LHR-HKG. Time will tell!

PS. Estimated cost is about $1900 in taxes/fees and fuel fines

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all,

Has anyone who's been on one of these QF OneWorld award trips ever had a missed connection out of your control (e.g. delayed inbound flight)? If so, what happened?

I understand that if one doesn't show for a segment then the rest of the ticket is cancelled. It would be very bad for this to happen due to a flight on the same ticket causing a disruption.

Any thoughts?

mrpooky.

The first issue that comes to mind is that you can only transfer in the same city twice. You are going through LHR three times so it won't be valid.
Maybe try connecting via a continental European port instead of LHR..?

Are you looking at BA's new A380 for LHR-HKG? If you can get it, they have a tasting menu for A380 F flights ex-LHR. They have another 777 service on the same route that doesn't have the Langham-inspired menu. Otherwise there is also CX F.

Try swapping JFK-LHR-CPH to JFK-HEL-CPH or JFK-MAD-CPH and there are a few others.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

When looking at it, I thought it would be ok due to it being 2 transits and 1 stopover. Not sure if that makes a difference though.

use the oneworld trip planner to see if your iten is legal. Very handy~

It's also updated now. Haven't used it much extensively, but a lot more usable!

Thanks but this validates the oneworld explorer (I think) paid fares and not the OneWorld award fare, which doesn't have to be rtw.

Yes, not sure about 2 transits and one stop... I'll have to read the fine print. Some of the other options for this don't have First class across the ditch - not too fussed for European flights since I don't think any airlines offer F in that context but long haul and especially overnight is when it becomes more important. Plus I'm keen to use a 'proper' F product not a business class + product :)

The BA tip is good - thanks. Trouble is the BA A380 has a dreadful connection with the QF A380... Could always get drunk in the lounge :)
