"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Need help. Does any one have an answer to these points:
- Is change of currency allowed? Original first flight is from Singapore. Proposed change will leave from Manila instead. SGD to PHP

- My first booking which generated the PNR was in May 2019. First flight to be taken in April 2020. If i haven't taken the flight can i push the flight back to February 2021 or will the PNR be expired?

- I'm using the OWA to complete two trips. April 2020 and December 2020. I want to know my options if i can keep my December 2020 plans and move April 2020 to February 2021.

Yes, my first leg I booked was from SIN and was charged in SGD, I changed that to NTL and was subsequently charged in AUD

I don't have any answer for you, but re your third point, I'm contemplating a similar change, or just postponing my two trips to next year.

Like many others, I had split my OWA into 2 'trips', first to the US and then to Europe, with a 'long stop' in Asia (where I was flying separately back home to Australia). Given the current situation worldwide, I'm now thinking of re-arranging my trips, so that I go to Europe first, and then US, and now commencing in Asia.

Does anyone see any issues with SIN-DOH-VIE- (stop) - MUC-DOH-HKG-MEL- (stop) - LAX-(stop) SFO-TYO-SIN ?

By my calculations, I can still add another stopover.

You can add any flights to your booking, as long as you stay within the rules. You may start from anywhere (including Manila),flight availability permitting.

Would you mind sharing your total tax cost and itinerary (don't need dates) before and after your changes? Would be very interested in what happens to your taxes.

I see others have posted their experience in changing currency, but it may be related to how you make your original booking.

In my case I made a booking ex. Japan and was charged in Yen.

Later I added sectors at the start of the trip and my itinerary now brings in SIN. The extra taxes were charged in Yen.

But the QF agent did mention during the call that he had to “log into our Japan office to make your changes...”

Thanks all. I changed my April flights to October for now because the QF chat Rep was adamant it was not possible to do "currency change"

added an extra $48SGD... same flights different dates.
Sorry haven't received the ticketed booking yet.

Shudder to think where the Chat Room was located.

Also, e-ticketing reissue can be almost instant. Needs to be monitored. Alarm bells for me after 30 minutes.

yup - waiting on hold with Qantas now.
was 3 hours earlier today before someone picked up (by that time chat had "fixed" my request.

I might be a bit daft - but with Latam leaving, can we book flights on the OWA inc Latam ... but when we call to add in flights after they leave oneworld, will that Latam leg make the whole itinerary illegal under the rules?

IIRC someone posted previously that if you book a LATAM flight as part of a OWA BEFORE they leave OW in May, then that flight will honoured as complying with the OWA rules, but any LATAM flights booked with QF points after May will not qualify and the award points will not be capped at 132,400 / 318,000 etc.

Sorry to hear it. That is obscene. I was similarly quoted a few hundred AUD (equivalent) for a date change. Taxes don't (generally) change day to day! I wonder if there's an investigation to be done here @Mattg
Edit: I need to get my eyes checked, clearly

With a part flown OWA (started July 2019) if I want to make a change is it just the start & end point of the flight segments that have to be the same or must it be the exact same routing?

For example I'm currently booked to fly HKG-BCN in mid May which is no longer available to be booked, so I'm expecting a change to occur. If I was to try to push the start date of that segment back a month would I be allowed to book HKG-LHR-BCN with CX/BA or BA/BA? The start & end points are the same but the route overall is different.

From the book of rules:
14.7.6 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward flight before departure of that flight, provided the booking contains one or more Flight Segments that are not within Australia, and the Flight Segment(s) being changed do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change. Any such change will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:

(a) change to flight number; and
(b) change to date of travel.

The complete rule book can be found here: Frequent Flyer Terms and Conditions | Qantas

OK experts, I'm part way though my OWA and am over playing Russia roulette with different countries travel bans (especially when it is impossible to contact 'customer service' for changes etc!) I'd like to now buy a ticket directly back 'ome! My question is, with the latest Qantas cancellation changes due to Corona virus...voucher or refunds, does that include classic reward bookings?? Obviously I'd like to cancel rest of my OWA and get remaining points and taxes refunded I'm worrried though if I hit cancel (assuming I can online) I will forfeit both?!
As always, be very grateful for insights advice!

Unfortunately I'd suggest you will be left in the lurch here. Once a ticket is started, you don't get any points back. There is a directly related clause to this in the t&c's.

I would look hard into your travel insurance, hopefully there is an interrupted flight or country with closed borders somewhere in your itinerary that gives you a reason to come home and claim.

Just got my e-ticket and credit card has been charged, so looks like I am all good now! Only took about an hour to properly ticketed.

Here is the itinerary (all in lowly economy):
- ADL > SYD (transit) on QF
- SYD > LAX on AA
- ONT > DFW (transit) on AA
- DFW > MEX
- Surface sector to SCL
- SCL > JFK on Latam
- JFK > FCO on AA
- FCO > DOH (transit) on Qatar
- DOH > KUL on Qatar
- KUL > ADL on MH

Total taxes = $1,218.26 per person (Qatar flight really inflated this).

Total trip duration is 8 months. Leaving in March.

Thanks to this thread I was able to even contemplate booking this award. Has been pretty complicated but should all be worth it soon!
Was meant to be departing on this tomorrow but have had to cancel last night.
All the border restrictions, AA cancelling long haul routes (including Syd to Lax), Restaurant closures etc got to a point where we had to pull the pin.

Getting a full refund of points and taxes.

We have packed up our lives, quit our jobs and rented out our apartment for this trip. So it’s pretty shattering to have to cancel/postpone.
