"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Quick question please?
On my OWA I am currently booked to fly from FCO to HKG (so I can purchase my own flight back to Melb, then return to HKG later for second leg of trip). I am finding it difficult to get a reasonable priced flight HKG-Mel-HKG! Just wondering if you have any thoughts on perhaps Singapore being a better option for me?
What dates and class are you looking for?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I can't find the answer. If I make multiple changes to my itinerary within the one transaction, do I just get one 5000 point change fee? Or do I pay for every segment changed? I realise I also need to pay nay additional taxes/fees. Thanks.

5,000 points per passenger for each phone call where you make changes. Any number of changes in the one phone call for 5,000 points.

From experiences, is it possible to request J seats as a WP and attach that to a partner connection as a change to an existing ticket?

If you are redeeming QFF points for an award, then any such request would apply to QF flights, only, and not to other airlines. Is that where you were going?

Edit: Changes, including class of travel, will need re-ticketing

That makes sense. I wasn't sure if I would have any difficulties with agents understanding my request. I currently have BNE-ORD-SEA booked as part of a 280k trip but the real dates I wanted didn't have anything from BNE-ORD so I was hoping I would be able to combine the request with existing AA seats between ORD-SEA.

Are you keeping your options open, via SYD/MEL and DFW/LAX/SFO?
When I booked ORD-BNE about a month ago, there were 6 x U seats available on my preferred date for August. Highly variable and route dependent of course. Constant checking or subscribe to EF for alerts.

I'm more flexible on dates than route as I really want to be on QF between BNE-ORD. I've also discovered that my preferred dates are probably a bit tough as it's around public holidays. Appreciate the tips though!

Best time of day to ring Qantas to alter OWA flight(s)?
I know I have seen it in this thread but 'please' save me from looking back through to try and find it?
Thanking you in advance.

Early. Oz starts at around 6.30am, from reports. NZ will be earlier. Both should be helpful.

SA and Manila never seem to sleep. 😡

Wondering if anyone has had specific experience with this.
I am partway through a OWA. Flown a few segments with plenty more.
I originally had SYD-LHR, then a ~28 hour stop, then LHR-CDG the next day.
Now to only transit for a few hours in LHR.
Agent told me that once travel has commenced, I cannot change transits to stops and vice versa.
Only date and time changes.

This is the closest I can find:

14.7.6 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward flight before departure of that flight, provided the booking contains one or more Flight Segments that are not within Australia, and the Flight Segment(s) being changed do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change. Any such change will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:

(a) change to flight number; and
(b) change to date of travel.

Is this right? I remember some discussion on changes once travel has commenced but can't find it.

My experience has been once you've started you can't change but if they have changed your flights you should be able to negotiate. Good luck and if not HUACA

Don't have personal experience but I have never seen a reference in the Ts & Cs regarding a change of stopover to a transfer or vice versa being not allowed - assuming the restriction of 2 transfers and one stopover per city would not be breached by the change.

I'm confident the agent's advice to you in that regard is wrong, simply because the allowed changes to the date of travel would, in a great many instances, involve as a consequence, a change from a stopover to transfer or vice versa.
I'd ring back and get a different agent to make the changes you want.

Keep phoning and hope that you get Oz or NZ next time, or HUACA.

That stopover/transit business sounds like SA or Manila? It’s the same routing and carrier isn’t it, just a flight/date change?

Edit: I would not be raising the subject of transits. You are requesting a flight/date change. I have no personal experience with changes after trip commencement

QR fly Doha to Saigon and Ho Chi Minh City. They cannot be booked online ? Should I be able to book them as part of OWA trip? Thanks in advance.

Yes you can book any QR flight as part of the award.
You can’t book a flight starting in DOH online as Qantas does not accept the Qatar currency.
If this is the first flight of you OWA then you can call to have this booked and the points fee for doing a phone booking should be waived.
If you are adding this to an existing OWA you will be charged 5,000pts per person.
