Having read a lot of info about this award, experimented with routings., did dummy bookings etc etc, it seemed like a missed a small but unfortunately a deal breaker for me.

I planned to start my trip in SIN and after visiting HEL and JFK I would return to BKK. Six months later I would then start another trip to Europe and return to SIN to complete the award.

I booked the first sector SIN-HEL / 23AUG20 on the 28AUG19. I tried to add sectors today but was informed that I could not add a 21SEP20 sector as it was more that 12 months from my initial booking of 28AUG19.

Is this true? If it is how do you book one of these awards when there isn’t availability for all the sectors?

From my minimal knowledge, you should be able to add a sector if it's for travel within a 12 month period - booking time shouldn't be relevant.

I too would be very interested to know if this is correct as it will stuff up future plans I have.

Your trip has to be completed within a 12 month period i.e. from the date of your first flight to when your last flight arrives back home. The date you booked is irrelevant.
Zoom&Boom, is it possible the CSA thought you were trying to book flights more than 12 months away i.e. flights which haven't been released yet?

Husband is going to Denmark (Billund ) for a day lol
Basically that is the reason for the trip
He likes to try out other first class airlines for a sticky beak.
Probable Paris or any of the German ... Austrian cities

Is there much first class product from London to these relatively close Euro cities?

You could go via HKG, NRT, HEL, DOH or MAD using OneWorld

Going anywhere else is a challenge as you have the one stopover rule in London

Can you stop at Billund on the way over, or does it have to be mid-trip?

Preference is near the end of the trip but having said that Billund doesn't have to be included in the trip . There is numerous BA flights from Heathrow

Thanks for the quick responses. All sectors would be within 12 months of the original Departure date, however more than 12 months of the original booking date. The CSA seemed to be implying that all the sectors would have the same booking date ie the date of the first sector. If that is the case it is almost impossible to book this if you have to grab the sectors as they are released at -354/330 etc.

You book it bit by bit, as award availability opens up. Once you see availability, book it, or risk losing it. Then add other flights, later.

Award seats don't usually hang around forever.

Edit: It requires a few calls to the Call Centre @ 5,00 points/passenger/phone call. However, this is still a very good deal, so long as you have a few points up your sleeve.

Having just spent a reasonable amount of time with a Supervisor I actually read the T&Cs. It refers to “the original ticketed departure date” and not the issue date. The Supervisor stated that you cannot have a ticket valid longer than 12 months from the “issuing date”

I believe her interpretation is not correct. Does anyone know the correct answer?

Pretty much every OWA commenced at 360 days will have a completion date of +365 from date of original creation/issue.
I Just completed a booking, started on 8 Aug 2019, first flight 4 Aug 2020. Added final sector 28 Sep 19, and the award completes Aug 28 2020.
So, issue date 8 Aug 19, completion date 28 Aug 2020.
Its definitely 12mths from ticketed departure date, ie from 4 Aug 20 in my case. Not 8 AUg 19.
Roll the dice, sit on hold, and try again.
Hopefully the sword is put away

The ticketing date changes on each re-ticketing. Just check your e-ticket each time you make changes.

There's been a long standing acronym on AFF about what to do when a call centre person doesn't know something they should or insists they are correct about something you know is BS. It's HUACA - hang up and call again. It's surprising how often a different agent produces a better result

The original QF e-ticket was issued on 8/8/19 as part of a Qantas OneWorld Award, with the first flight commencing on 1/8/20. Subsequently, I’ve added some more flights, all now ticketed, as they became available, with the last flight of the itinerary commencing on 19/8/20. This means that my last flight will be 12 months and 11 days since the original ticketing.

So, how would this meet the 12 month-from-original-ticketing? Well, it doesn’t of course but it’s within12 months of the most recent ticketing date and not the first ticketed date.

Edit: Is there another interpretation of this or are there crossed wires here?

I see it as your award must complete by 31/7/21, not longer than 12 months after your first ticketed departure date (1/8/20). No matter what further changes you make, including to the departure date, that end date is locked in.

That’s what I had always thought. 12 months to complete the itinerary, after the 1st flight, so effectively could be up to 2 years away. Now it seems somewhat confusing based on some posts, above.

To save me some research time, has anyone had any success getting J reward seats for the JNB - GRU or GRU - JNB LAN flights or are they virtually non-existent? If you have managed to snaffle them, what timing worked for you?

Alternatively, does AA have regular J availability for flights from the east coast of USA to Argentina or Brazil?

One quick question to the brains trust. If I take a sector on one other OW carrier, and then take another sector that is a code share of the same carrier (but a different OW airline metal) - would that count as 2 carriers other than QF?

LA have recently announced they will be leaving OW. No date has been announced yet.
