"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Why consider LA801 as backup, not good enough as first choice?

I was trying to keep my sectors down just in case of changes, but your right either would be good, Qantas with the old b747-400 or Lan with their new b787-900. Having never flown business before I was trying to make this trip about the product and experience as much as the destinations, I'll keep my options open to SCL because I was looking forward to checking out the Cassilero Del Diablo winery there

That's a long way to go for a drop of wine, but I like your style

Slightly OT: if you have time I'd strongly recommend a hop over the Andes to Mendoza, especially if you enjoy a Malbec. Quick flight, stunning views, and Mendoza is an easy relaxed and attractive town... with plenty of wineries nearby.

Couldn't find a location on their site? Did you find t through another source?

Mendoza looks interesting too.
Apologies for OT.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all,

Hoping a pro can help me out there.

Working on a 280k booking for 2 PAX, yes, probably leaving this a little late, but I'm determined....

2-Sep SYD-JNB
4-Sep SYD-DOH-EDI
drive to dublin
9-Sep DUB-YYZ

All fine for 2 PAX in J. However getting home is a difficult task...

Have to be back in SYD 14th or very early 15th. Pref to maximise the time in Toronto, but not really fussed to make a stopover anywhere really; Hong Kong, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas. Wherever to avoid a long haul back to SYD in Y.

any tips on where I should be looking to get some kind of J avail? WankyPlat if that helps.

Once again. thanks for the tips. J out of the Americas was indeed impossible. So we changed our trip slightly and are going to finland instead of canada.

2-Sep SYD-JNB
4-Sep JNB-DOH-EDI
drive to dublin
11-Sep DUB-LHR-HEL
15-Sep HEL-LHR-HKG-SYD

Painful on that last leg with a total of 34 hours. and the last two segments are in premium-economy albeit fairly good premium ec from the reviews. Tried really hard to get QR back in J but they only had F and the transit times meant a total of 40hours. excessive...

Qantas sales spent a while trying to get anything through singapore, shanghai, tokyo, doha... nothing.

One thing I was told today, as my itinerary wasn't ticketed 20 hours after booking it. Apparently DOH (or could be any segments involving QR) require the advanced passenger information to be collected. So I've given that to Qantas. fingers crossed it's all ticketed OK.

I am assuming that should be JNB-DOH-EDI?

Good you have something locked in but now is time to set up the Expert Flyer alerts for that trip home! CX often release business award availability closer in so you could get lucky to change it out for PY.

Ahh yes, that's correct. should be JNB-DOH-EDI

thanks for that expert flyer tip, however they don't have CX. Might keep an eye on it for different routing though. Maybe the LHR-SYD might get 2 J avail on it..... unlikely :)

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Once again thanks to vetrade for opening my eyes to alternatives
having had a look around I'm thinking of skipping Europe, I can make it back from JFK to AUS with only one stopover with many possibilities, for those doing their research Ill share some flights I'm looking at
JFK-HKG cx845, cx841, cx831 all in B777-300er
JFK-NRT jl3 B787 jl5 B777 (patchy availability through BA, however BOS-NRT jl7 B787 shows plenty of seats)
JFK-DOH qr704 A350

Hope this helps others planning their trip

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone can help me out, my 140k trip i had planned out a month ago has rapidly changed due to work commitments (thankfully not booked!). As a result my first leg needs to be out of Dhaka (DAC) on 22 August, going to Madrid (MAD). I know Qatar fly the route, but can anyone advise how to check availability? Qantas does not list DAC on their multi-city option.

Cheers

Try BA's award search. Even if the airport isn't listed if you use the 3 letter code it usually works.

Thanks for the idea, unfortunately though it won't allow an Australian address for registration.

You can register without problems just by putting your country down as somewhere in Europe e.g. just put your country as Austria instead of Australia.

Managed to set up an account. No luck with the flights though. The message was:

Sorry, we don’t fly this route.

Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks

Are you sure you were doing an award search? I.e. purchase with Avios?

I just did a search and it worked for me. Looks like you might be in luck. A couple of options there with business award availability.

I thought I was doing the right thing, but evidently not. Thank you for confirming for me. One last question, does this mean that I need to call Qantas to book?

If you are using Qantas points for your itinerary yes you do.

Any idea why this wouldn't be working;

SYD-CNS-HKG-CDG
CDG-LHR-JNB-CPT
CPT-DUR
DUR-JNB-DOH-DPS
PER-SYD

I can enter passenger details, but receive the generic "can't find fare" on the payment page

Maybe you've posted in the wrong thread. This thread is for booking flights with points but it seems you might be looking for a OW Global Explorer fare? Or is it that you're searching for reward flights on the OW website when you should be looking for award seats on the QF website?
