Hi all,

I'm flying from Melbourne to Vancouver after Christmas with my girlfriend and thought it would be nice if I surprised her (hopefully) with an upgrade.

How much should I bid for an upgrade to Premium Economy? I think I'll only bid on the Auckland to Vancouver leg...

Also, will I get increased status points if the bid is successful? Or is my original ticket class kept the same?

I'm just starting to travel a bit for work so getting into the whole frequent flyer game!

Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

I assume you mean NZ?

Can't really comment on how much to bid. How much are you comfortable paying?

As for the Status Credits, they post in your original booking class.

Is there a big difference between Economy and Premium Economy on that flight (think it's 777-200)? I'm thinking i'll make the minimum bid (~$340) - how likely is it that I will get upgraded?

Refurb or non-refurb?

If non then not much except a few more inches of legroom.

Its unlikely they will swap the 777 that departs about 11.30am or so from MEL, but I lost my one and only one up bid so far.
Why you ask?
Well, firstly they had a 767 or 777 going out from SYD to AKL at 15.30/15.45.
I had put in a one up bid.
Then I lost the bid.
But it didn't click in my head that they (Air) NZ had substituted the 767/777 to a 320, so silly me, I thought I would still have the chance to fly a wide body NZ plane.
But oh, no, my dream bubble popped, burst more so, to find out that I was sitting on a 320.
Thought the NZ 777 carries more people than the 320, but (mentally/psychologically), its more spacious, refur/non refur, I would still prefer the 767/777 to a 320.
