Hi guys,
For the routing experts among you, could someone suggest a possible route for me:

I'd like to fly economy Mel - BAH (Bahrain), preferably using OneWorld. Unfortunately all the Cathay Pacific seats are sold (according to their website) on the dates that I wish to travel (Dep Mel Aug 17, Dep Bah Aug 23).
Now here is my problem, Qantas fly a codeshare with Gulf, but only SIN-BAH-SIN. The return flight (BAH-SIN) arrives in SIN at 9.30AM. There is no flight to Mel (or anywhere else in OZ) until 19:15pm - about 10 hours later. Any suggestions for other routes?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Fly into one of the other middle east airports and fly/drive on from there? Not sure if schedule will be any easier though.

Otherwise, fly non-OW if the schedule suits better.

How about planning to spend a day sightseeing or shopping in Singapore. You have pretty much exhausted the OneWorld options. EK can probably do a good deal for you.

You could fly on the QF codeshare on the GF flights for the SIN-BAH-SIN and use the GF flight for MEL-SIN-MEL

Guys, Thanks for the responses.

Kiwiflyer: Drive option to Bahrain not really viable as it only has a land access with Saudi Arabia. However, non-oneworld, say Gulf Air/Emirates is of course always possible.

NM: Been to Singapore plenty. Just would prefer to come home quickly this time I guess.

Dave: I think this is the best option. 2 questions though.
1. How do I book the Qantas code share? Certainly not from the Qantas website. Is a TA the only option?

2. Due to the SYD airport curfew at 10.30pm, there is only 1 flight (10.20pm) after my arrival in Syd (8.15pm) to then get to Melb. I have heard that the Gulf Air flight is invariably late. Can anyone verify this?

Cheers

Hi browski,
GF is invariably late, but not too bad on the long legs, and usually due to late pax rather than mechanical or airline issues. I don't recall any very late arrivals.

As you may be aware, GF's BAH lounge is great if your ticket/status allows access, and for long transits the travel counter offers vouchers to stay at a hotel. Just don't rely on it in case it is messed up by the persons working at the counter.

Overall flying GF is a good experience, especially if you have a F/J seat.
Good luck!

My dad returned from ATH on GF last month. Flight was slightly delayed and was due to arrive at 8:15pm into SYD but revised back to 8:00pm as they had made up time during flight. I arrive at SYD airport at 7:45pm and flight did not touch down until after 9:00pm. GF does not have a good reputation for being on time but then I seem to have the same problem with most airlines anyway.

Perhaps with QF over the phone is another way

Cathay Via Hong Kong to Bahrain. CX733

Editted to add..oh ok should read the post more slowly...sorry.

Browski,

if it was me, I would take CX to DXB and then either GF or EK to BAH. Its only a 40 min flight from memory and certainly beats hanging around SIN for 10 hrs.

Cheers

The same CX flight HKG-DXB continues on to BAH. There is availability on August 17th CX731 HKG-DXB-BAH and August 23rd CX732 BAH-DXB-HKG but I think only business class available looking at the airfare of HK$23464.

John,

What I was getting at (couldn't you read my mind :)) is that there maybe availability just to DXB and then buy a GF or EK ticket from there, I just didn't explain myself too well.

I did the flight you mentioned in March. Try and avoid CX lounge in BAH. Picture a shoe box and add cheese and biscuits .

I couldn't read your mind, sorry. :( Nothing wrong with what you proposed, I was just looking at availability and there is no availability to either DXB or BAH other than business class or full economy.

I assume no alcohol for the mice either. Other than a xONEx for increased mileage, I cannot picture myself anywhere near the area.

I didn't check the alcohol status as once I saw how small it was I decided to explore the terminal (we only had a 40 min turnaround from memory).

Alcohol is available in Bahrain (expensive). The Saudi's come across the causeway in droves on a Thursday night.
