I am not sure if this has been covered by any other threads but I am trying to acertain whether it is pehaps cheaper to book a oneworld round world ticket in another country, or is the price the same everywhere, If not then where is best ?

Yes it is much cheaper to buy in certain countries.

Although, sometimes you lose way too much in getting to that location to actually benefit too much.

Flyertalk in the OneWorld section (oneworld - FlyerTalk Forums) is probably a better place to read up on this concept.

I know a few reg's here do Done3/4's from Asia (amongst other countries) - they'll be along shortly to add their bits and pieces.

Oh, and the quickest, cheapest one to us is New Zealand. They get a saving over the Australian price.

One thing to note is that you have to purchase and ticket the ticket in that country - ie you can't go to Flight Centre and get them to arrange it (unless they have contacts overseas who will do it for you). This could get a little tricky and uncomfy for someone if you aren't fully sure of what you are doing. (ie wiring money to Colombo (Sri Lanka) or faxing/emailing stuff back and forth - or frantically picking up a ticket at the airport during a turnaround!

You need to understand the way the ticket price is determined. Its the highest of the published fares for the country where the ticket is issued and the country where travel will commence.

So to get the ticket at the price listed for another country, you not only need to commence the travel from that country but need to have the ticket issued in that country. So that means you have to find an agent or airline that will issue in that country and you have to get yourself there to commence travel.

In some cases it can still be worthwhile, but in many cases its just not worth the hassle and cost of getting there and back. It can mean you get to stopover for a long period in Australia and not bound by the max of two SWP stopovers. Plenty of people have been doing this for some time. Its generally most cost effective for a DONE4 fare.

Looks like research time. By the way anyone got a good recommendation for a cheaper J class to Lax from Mel with one world seems latest prices I have seen with circle pacific is still expensive. Almost cheaper to RTW as J class

DCIR22 is about as cheap as it gets for business class on OneWorld between Australia and USA.

You could always buy a UA economy class seat and try for the $500 upgrade to business class. A bit of a risk tough as there might not be any J seats available for that deal on the day - and not OneWorld of course.

Most cost effective way I know to get to LAX in a forward cabin with larger seats is probably Jet

using

Class to HNL for AUD2550, then an AA Y/KUP fare HNL-LAX from AUD2350; that's a total of AUD5900.

Those prices are contemporary and inclusive. Compare with a DCIR22 from AUD7030+++.

We fly JAL in J BNE-JFK for $A6500.To LAX it is $A5849 + taxes.This is on their companion airfare rate.I believe MEL is the same price.Old time J seats to NRT but then flat seats across the pacific.You can earn AA points on JAL but not Q-points but perhaps after 1st april that will change if JAL officially becomes part of oneworld then.Hopefully as I am flying out to JFK on 17/4.
To LAX I believe though it is not always their flat seat product.
