Quick back story: Daughter on her honeymoon US/Canada. I have already booked them CX Bos-Hkg-Syd in J on 28 Jan 2024. (they are in NY for Xmas with his family, and BOS was the only city I could find with Awards seats in J to get them home)

Wanted to gift them F experience. As a WP I have asked QF to release P seats on QF12 Lax-Syd on 28 Jan 2024. That request is now "On Request"

May I hear your experiences on having QF tickets on request.

How long before the flight did you get notified?
Success rate?

I need to work out at what point do I arrange flight from JFK to LAX to connect with this flight. A couple of days prior in LAX is fine, but also don't want to loose the J flight home out of BOS if request is declined.

Unless you're WP1, I don't think it's going anywhere.

For WP the bot looks at these requests. Sometimes instant, sometimes takes a couple of days.
If you haven’t heard anything in a couple of days it’s been declined.

Only P1 can request a human (route controller etc) look if the bot says no.

Just an update to close this thread. My request for 28th was declined, but I was not notified, so I called this morning.
The lovely Toni in HBA told me I can have the 26th or 27th. Took the 27th, and First class ticket has arrived in my in-box.
If this wont make me "the worlds best mother-in-law" nothing will. (this is my Wedding gift to them)

The very helpful HBA guy looked at alternatives for me yesterday. Helped to avoid a $1250 Y one way from Perth to SIN to connect with a rewards flight on BA to LHR/ABZ in Y in June. Not sure if this is correct, he said as the flight had only fully flex available that they would not release any tickets on the Per/SIN flight?

I have a free weekend so a bit of milk run, CA from PER/HGK/SIN in J then BA J to LHR/ABZ. All up saved some $, lost a lot of points, though no point sitting on them, :), and get to check the CA F lounge and explore Changi some more.

I am guessing that as a points club member I won't get the SC's as it's not on QF metal?

Do you mean Cathay Pacific / CX ?
I don’t think QF can get seats on Air China.

No you won’t get any SC on any of these as they aren’t QF flights although the odd surprise may have occurred with some OW carriers.

Thanks for that and I was not expecting so I will not hold my breath, and yes CX ... Oh so many acronyms

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

General follow-up. Can WPs make a request for a range of days (say, 2-3 consecutive), or can it only be for one date at a time?
She did "ask me" for a range of dates. I told her "anything between 26-31 December" and as LAX_SYD QF12 is the only flight with F, then we only had that choice of flight, which may have made it easier.

HBA will generally do 3 days at a time. Once they setup the shell booking with all your details it appears to be no more than a few extra clicks.

I outlines previously Fiji's odd and different process, that I believe means it gets sent to someone in HBA anyway. Fiji continually told me I can only request one day at a time which is nonsense.
I have always had pretty good success being flexible and requesting +/- 3 days of when I want to travel with the exclusion of the ban periods.

Is this in regard to requesting seats or general availability of award seats on CI. Not sure about the former and IME finding rewards seats on CI is not impossible but does not seem to be the easiest. I have found and booked rewards flight to TPE but finding an onward connection to US or EU seems to be problematic.

Lets be careful to not confuse Air China (CA), a Star member and PRC government airline with China Airlines (CI) of Taiwan, who QF have a relationship with.

It can be common for some to confuse the two carriers with the similar names.

As per @RichardMEL was referring specifically to CA (Air China)
